What will you do?In this
Engineering Supervisor role, approximately
50% of your time will be dedicated to automation and control systems engineering activities and project execution, while the remaining
50% will be focused on supervision, people leadership, and team development activities.
As a working supervisor, you will be responsible for leading a team of up to
8 engineering professionals while remaining actively engaged in project work to support customer delivery and business objectives.
Travel: Ability to travel up to 15% within North America as required
Key Responsibilities:People Leadership and Team Development (50%)- Direct supervision, coaching, and leadership of up to 8 employees within the engineering organization.
- Conduct regular one-on-one meetings to support employee engagement, development, and performance.
- Establish and maintain individual development plans and career progression discussions for team members.
- Complete annual performance reviews, goal setting, and ongoing performance management activities.
- Identify training and development opportunities to build technical and leadership capabilities within the team.
- Participate in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and workforce planning activities.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and employee growth.
- Address employee relations issues and partner with Human Resources to resolve concerns as needed.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and safety requirements.
- Manage resource allocation and support day-to-day operational activities of the engineering team.
Engineering Delivery and Operational Leadership (50%)- Serve as a lead engineer, project engineer, or technical contributor on automation and control system projects while maintaining approximately 50% billable utilization.
- Leverage project assignments as development opportunities by coaching and mentoring engineers to assume increasing levels of project leadership responsibility.
- Intentionally create opportunities for team members to lead customer engagements, project planning activities, technical execution, and project delivery efforts.
- Delegate responsibilities and provide guidance to help engineers grow into independent project leads capable of managing projects with minimal supervisory involvement.
- Participate in project planning, execution, and delivery activities to ensure quality, schedule, and budget objectives are achieved.
- Participate in monthly project reviews and operational meetings.
- Collaborate with project managers and engineering leaders to effectively allocate resources across projects and customer commitments.
- Develop engineering estimates, scope definitions, and technical solutions to support proposals and business development activities.
- Lead selected projects and provide technical guidance to project teams when required.
- Collaborate with Proposal, Service, Sales, Finance, Human Resources, and other business functions to ensure successful project execution and business continuity.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance engineering processes, project execution methodologies, and operational effectiveness.
- Act as delegate for the Engineering Manager as required.
Success in this Role:The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to effectively balance
people leadership and customer project delivery, developing a high-performing team while remaining technically engaged and maintaining approximately
50% utilization on billable project work. A key measure of success is the ability to grow engineering talent by coaching and mentoring team members into project leadership roles, creating a sustainable succession pipeline, expanding organizational capability, and enabling others to independently lead successful project execution.
What qualifications will make you successful for this role?- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- 10+ years of experience in industrial automation, process control, or systems engineering.
- Demonstrated experience leading engineering teams and delivering complex automation projects.
- Strong interpersonal, coaching, and leadership skills with a passion for developing others.
- Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and develop engineers into expanded technical and project leadership roles.
- Proven track record of delegating project responsibilities and building team capability through structured mentoring, knowledge transfer, and on-the-job development.
- Experience developing engineers to lead customer engagements, project execution activities, technical reviews, and project delivery with increasing levels of independence.
- Strong leadership mindset focused on talent development, succession planning, and creating growth opportunities for team members.
- Experience conducting performance evaluations, career development planning, and workforce management activities.
- Ability to balance technical project responsibilities with people leadership and operational oversight.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with customers, project teams, and business leadership.
Preferred Qualifications:- Experience with Schneider Electric automation technologies, including Foxboro DCS, Triconex Safety Systems, EcoStruxure platforms, and Modicon PLCs.
- Experience executing projects within the Oil & Gas, Chemicals, LNG, Refining, Energy, or Industrial sectors.
- Knowledge of project execution methodologies, engineering resource planning, and financial management principles.
- Experience supporting sales pursuits, proposal development, and engineering estimates.

For this U.S. based position, the expected pay range is USD 117,600 - USD 176,400 per year. This pay range includes base pay and short-term incentives. The compensation range for this full-time position applies to candidates located within the United States. Our pay ranges are determined by reviewing roles of similar responsibility and level. Within the pay range, individual pay is determined by several factors including performance, knowledge, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
