Job Description

The Battery Cell Manufacturing Process group develops innovative processes that enable robust manufacturing for next-generation battery cell designs. This leadership role offers the opportunity to lead a team advancing new battery cell formation and production automation technologies in support of GM's electrification vision.
What You'll Do
  • Champion safety in all development activities
  • Lead development and implementation of new automation and formation processes for battery cell manufacturing
  • Supervise and develop a team focused on advanced battery cell manufacturing processes
  • Recruit, coach, and develop team members
  • Set technology roadmap objectives aligned with GM's electrification strategy
  • Manage development budgets and lab resources
  • Lead specification, procurement, and qualification of prototype equipment and tooling
  • Partner with battery cell design, research, and manufacturing teams to bring new concepts into production
  • Lead technical engagements with external partners and support co-development strategies
  • Present project updates, development concepts, and recommendations to leadership
  • Drive continuous improvement, root cause analysis, and corrective actions
  • Apply lean principles and structured problem-solving tools in process development
  • Provide technical direction to support teams, vendors, labs, and plant manufacturing teams
  • Travel as needed for meetings and site visits
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field
  • 5+ years of relevant engineering or manufacturing experience
  • 3+ years of experience in battery cell process development
  • Strong knowledge of electrochemical engineering
  • Experience leading external technical partnerships
  • Experience leading implementation of new technologies or processes
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and project management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with sound technical judgment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Statistical problem-solving training
  • Experience in manufacturing plant operations
  • Experience with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement tools such as Minitab, Red X, or DFSS
