Job Summary
As an Engineering Project Team Leader, you will lead and coordinate engineering projects and Continuous Product Improvement (CPI) initiatives specifically supporting the GCM34 gas engine and the overall medium speed engine family (M20-M46). This role serves as a key liaison between manufacturing, engineering, and global stakeholders across Lafayette, Mossville, and Kiel, Germany. You will drive project execution, facilitate technical and business decision-making, and support product improvements from concept through implementation while balancing cost, quality, and timing objectives.

What You Will Do
  • Lead multiple engineering and Continuous Product Improvement (CPI) projects from planning through implementation.
  • Coordinate project activities across global teams.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between manufacturing, product engineering, quality, supply chain, and other functional teams.
  • Drive project execution by managing schedules, risks, priorities, and stakeholder alignment.
  • Facilitate technical and business decision-making and escalate issues when necessary.
  • Develop and implement technical solutions related to combustion engine systems and components.
  • Partner with global engineering teams to support product lifecycle management and product improvement initiatives.
  • Coordinate engineering change activities while ensuring cost, quality, and timing objectives are achieved.
  • Support manufacturing operations by maintaining close collaboration with production teams and providing technical project leadership.
  • Influence cross-functional teams to achieve project milestones and business objectives.


Degree Requirement
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.

    • Supports product planning and continuous improvement efforts across multiple facilities.


  • Technical Excellence: Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.
    • Provides technical leadership and guidance on combustion engine and manufacturing-related projects.
    • Resolves complex technical issues through collaboration with engineering and manufacturing teams.
    • Applies engineering expertise to evaluate technical risks and develop effective solutions.
    • Supports continuous improvement efforts by identifying and implementing technical enhancements.


  • Team Management: Knowledge of effective team building techniques; ability to form and manage effective teams.
    • Leads cross-functional teams supporting engineering and manufacturing initiatives.
    • Aligns stakeholders around project goals, priorities, and deliverables.
    • Fosters collaboration across global organizations and facility locations.
    • Promotes effective communication and accountability throughout project execution.


  • Troubleshooting Technical Problems: Knowledge of troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, detect and resolve technical problems in a manufacturing or product management environment.
    • Identifies and resolves technical issues impacting product performance, manufacturing, or project execution.
    • Partners with engineering and manufacturing teams to determine root causes and corrective actions.
    • Applies structured problem-solving methodologies to support CPI initiatives.
    • Implements sustainable solutions that improve product quality and operational efficiency.


Additional Requirements
  • Experience with combustion engine technologies, including diesel and/or natural gas engine applications.
  • Manufacturing environment experience.
  • Proven project execution experience leading technical initiatives.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.


What Will Put You Ahead
  • Six Sigma Black Belt certification.
  • Continuous Product Improvement (CPI) experience.
  • Experience with large engine platforms, product development, or product lifecycle management.
  • Knowledge of diesel, gas, or dual-fuel engine technologies.
  • Experience leading cross-functional projects or global engineering projects.


Additional Information
  • This position requires the candidate to work a 5-day-a-week schedule in the office.
  • Travel up to 20% is possible.
  • Relocation is available for this position.

Summary Pay Range:

$128,470.00 - $192,710.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
