Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Environmental Durability & Reliability Component Manager who demonstrates strong technical depth, strategic thinking, and people leadership to join our organization. In this role, you will lead a team of engineers responsible for supporting planning, executing, and continuously improving environmental and durability testing for Vehicle Software and Electronics Organization.

You will own technical direction, team development, and contribute to the third-party lab operations. This is to ensure GM electronics meet customer usage profiles, internal specifications (GMW3172), and global standards for thermal, vibration, humidity, corrosion, and combined environments.

This position is critical to enabling GM’s vision of Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions, Zero Congestion and delivering world-class customer quality experience. The team partners closely with component release engineers to audit/develop test facilities and robust test processes that uphold the quality standards we set for our customers.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage and mentor a team of Hardware Performance Engineers, fostering their professional growth and technical expertise in environmental and durability testing and analysis.

  • Lead cross-functional teams and consulting services to define, develop, and execute component-level environmental and durability performance requirements, test plans, and validation strategies.

  • Oversee the performance management process for the team, including setting objectives, conducting regular performance reviews, and identifying areas for improvement.

  • Collaborate with design, manufacturing, and supplier partners to ensure component designs meet stringent environmental and durability standards.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives in test methodologies, analysis techniques, and data interpretation related to hardware performance.

  • Provide technical leadership and strategic direction for the team in resolving complex environmental and durability performance issues.

  • Communicate project status, technical challenges, and solutions effectively to senior leadership and stakeholders.


Job Qualifications

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in engineering management or a senior technical leadership role within the automotive or related industry.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related filed

  • Proven track record of coaching and mentoring engineering teams and developing talent

  • Strong ability to lead cross-functional teams in complex engineering environments

  • Experience in performance management, including goal setting, evaluation, and team development

  • Deep expertise in environmental and durability testing of hardware components

  • Solid understanding of material science, fatigue, corrosion, and failure mechanisms impacting product durability

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with GM specifications (e.g., GMW3172)

  • Strong data-driven problem-solving and analytical mindset

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Master’s Degree
