Full Job Description
Why this role exists

Our engineering team is small, senior, and fast, and it supports a platform holding 70,000 years of continuous vital signs joined to clinical records from more than 400,000 patients. As we scale toward hundreds of thousands of monitored patients, we want that speed to come with predictability: commitments the business can plan around, priorities that stay visible, and senior engineers spending their time on engineering. You will build the practices that make that true while keeping the pace that got us here.

What you'll own

  • Delivery predictability. Commitments the business can plan around, with risk surfaced early.
  • How the team works. Planning, prioritization, and estimation in Linear, at a level of process that keeps work legible and the team fast.
  • The engineers. Growth, feedback, hiring, and performance across the team.
  • Hands-on engineering. Roughly 50% of your week in code and design review. A genuine player-coach role, measured on both halves.
  • Customer-facing delivery. Balancing per-customer commitments against platform health.

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years managing software engineers
  • 5+ years as a senior engineer before managing, and current enough to review a design
  • Experience designing planning, prioritization, and estimation practices for a team
  • Capacity to spend roughly half your time hands-on
  • Experience managing engineers who work directly with customers

Preferred

  • Startup experience at similar scale and/or regulated software
  • Python, FastAPI, React, AWS
  • Teams that measurably improved under you, engineers you developed into larger roles, or a delivery turnaround you led
