Position Title Engineering Lab Technician - Electrical/Instrumentation (Staff & Management)
Position Summary The School of Trades and Technology is looking for an Engineering Technology Lab Technician - Electrical/Instrumentation.
The Engineering Technology Lab Technician will provide self-directed technical support for the day-to-day operations of the Engineering Labs. The successful candidate must be able to troubleshoot, solve problems and repair tools and equipment under tight timelines.
The successful candidate is required to support students and instructors in the School of Trades and Technology through the procurement of materials, supplies, and equipment as well as the installation, testing and calibration of equipment.
This position will also support related activities throughout the School of Trades and Technology when required.
This position is a full-time position and is required for 5 days per week (35 hours).
Position Responsibilities Responsibilities of the Engineering Technology Lab Technician - Electrical/Instrumentation include:
- Troubleshooting equipment in a modern lab setting, including DCS, PLC's, SCADA, and traditional pneumatic equipment.
- Design, plan, and construct small process trainers and various electrical demonstration and training tools.
- Maintain and operate various analyzers and sampling systems.
- Maintain and operate various final control elements, including smart positioners, actuators and valve bodies.
- Prepare and maintain equipment and other resources as guided by a course instructor.
Required Qualifications - Journeyperson Trade certificate and/or 2 year ASET creditable engineering technology in Electrical or Instrumentation.
- Knowledge of a wide range of software, instruments, analyzers, DeltaV DCS, Allen Bradley PLC, Allen Bradley HMI, VFD, communication systems, wireless communications, Local area networks, SCADA system, process systems, control systems, chemical systems, measurement systems, pneumatic systems, hydraulic systems, pressure control systems
- Trouble shooting experience in a modern lab setting.
- Ability to design, plan and construct small process trainers and various electrical demonstration and training tools
- Competent with various final control elements, including smart positioners, actuators and valve bodies.
- Experience with Material Testing equipment, Metrology testing equipment,
- Be familiar with flow, temperature, pressure, and level loops, and Instruments typically used to measure them.
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Sound decision making ability and problem-solving skills.
- Experienced in working successfully either as a part of a team or individually
- Willingness to learn and keep up to date on technology, and advance skills through courses and PD opportunities
Preferred Qualifications - ABB Robotic IRC5 programming 1 certification.
- CNC experience, Machinist, SolidWorks, and Auto Cad, or willing to learn.
Salary or Hourly? Salary
Salary $74,056 - $86,635 annually
Benefits and Compensation Information An additional 15% of the hourly rate in lieu of vacation, statutory holidays and benefits.
