What this job involves:

As the Engineering Director, Utilities & Electrical for our premier healthcare client account, you will provide strategic direction and executive leadership for the campus's entire utility generation, distribution, and electrical infrastructure. This critical senior leadership role oversees high-voltage electrical distribution networks, emergency standby power systems, utility procurement, and energy management strategies to guarantee 100% operational resilience for critical care environments.

What your day-to-day will look like:

  • Provide overarching leadership and strategic vision for the electrical and utilities engineering departments, ensuring robust operational continuity of all campus-wide life-safety power systems and utility plants.

  • Direct the testing, maintenance, and compliance of emergency generator systems, automatic transfer switches (ATS), substations, and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) configurations.

  • Collaborate with hospital executives, clinical directors, and local municipal utility providers to strategically plan and safely execute complex electrical shutdowns and major system cutovers.


  • Oversee operational and capital budgets for utility consumption and electrical infrastructure upgrades, justifying capital expenditure projects.


  • Champion the implementation of modern predictive maintenance technologies, including infrared thermography and real-time power monitoring systems.


Required qualifications:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in utilities management or electrical systems engineering, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership or director-level capacity within a hospital or large-scale healthcare campus.


  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related technical field.


  • Active professional license or certification, such as a Professional Engineer (PE) license, Master Electrician license, or equivalent high-level engineering credential.


  • Comprehensive expertise in medium-to-low voltage electrical distribution, utility plant operations, automatic transfer switchgear, and emergency backup generator systems.


  • Proven mastery of healthcare regulatory standards, including Joint Commission Environment of Care, NFPA 99, NFPA 110, and NFPA 70E.


  • Exceptional financial acumen with demonstrated experience managing large-scale utility budgets, capital expenditure forecasting, and multi-year infrastructure planning.


  • Outstanding leadership, communication, and presentation skills, with a track record of translating complex technical concepts for non-technical healthcare executives.


Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Business Administration, or Facilities Management.


  • Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM) or Certified Healthcare Constructor (CHC) credential.
