Position Summary

The Discipline Technical Manager is responsible for coordinating and managing the execution of quality and efficiency strategies and policies related to engineering work within their discipline and across the organization.

Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities

Quality & Improvement
  • Teams with Discipline Technical Directors to develop and align discipline-specific engineering approaches and quality strategies across the organization.
  • Proactively monitors technical quality within the discipline, responding appropriately to areas of concern or opportunities for improvement.
  • Provides feedback to inform technical strategies of the discipline.
  • Manages quality-assurance tools, processes and databases; ensures judicious application of these resources.
  • Provides quality control for projects.
  • Tracks and reports on progress toward annual goals and priorities of their technical discipline.
  • Serves as a technical resource/expert within the discipline.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Training & Mentoring
  • Oversees technical training and mentoring needs of the discipline and provides ongoing mentoring to production teams within the discipline and across sectors.
  • Identifies, delegates and executes process improvement strategies and tasks.
  • Manages vendor relations and coordinates training presentations.
  • Partners with sector technical leaders to align and maximize training efforts based on common needs.
  • Participates in interviewing to evaluate technical proficiency of potential talent for the discipline.

Required Education, Experience, Licenses & Technical Competencies
  • Bachelor's degree in any engineering, construction management, science, or technology preferred. Years of relevant experience will be considered in lieu of requisite education.
  • Eight or greater years of relevant experience required.
  • A minimum of two years leadership/management experience preferred.
  • Comprehensive knowledge in discipline of expertise and track record of technical excellence in such field.
  • History of contributing to technically sound teams, as well as ability to motivate and coach others.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the current technical needs of the industry and proven track record of quality monitoring, maintenance and improvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to mobilize organizational technical strategies through project execution.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in all core competencies as described and characterized in this job description.

Physical & Other Requirements
  • Prolonged periods of sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
