Summary:The Engineering & Maintenance Superintendent provides leadership for the facility's Maintenance and Manufacturing Engineering functions. The position is responsible for safe, reliable, efficient, and cost-effective manufacturing operations through effective management of maintenance, engineering, equipment reliability, tooling, controls, automation, facilities, capital projects, and continuous improvement. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring a strong manufacturing-floor presence and the ability to make timely technical and business decisions.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead, develop, mentor, and retain Maintenance, Manufacturing Engineering, Controls, and other technical personnel.
- Establish goals, priorities, performance expectations, staffing, training, and succession plans.
- Maintain a strong floor presence and provide technical leadership during production issues and equipment failures.
- Develop and maintain preventive and predictive maintenance programs based on equipment criticality, risk, and performance.
- Oversee troubleshooting, repairs, installations, upgrades, commissioning, and equipment reliability.
- Monitor uptime, downtime, PM compliance, work orders, maintenance costs, and other KPIs.
- Lead root-cause analysis and corrective actions for equipment failures and recurring problems.
- Ensure effective use of the CMMS and accurate maintenance records, equipment history, and critical spare-parts inventories.
- Provide technical direction for mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, controls, automation, and facility systems.
Engineering & Continuous Improvement- Lead manufacturing engineering activities supporting safety, quality, productivity, cost, and manufacturability.
- Improve manufacturing processes, tooling, equipment, automation, controls, and production methods.
- Analyze production and process data to identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities.
- Support machining, die casting, inspection/fixturing, finishing, assembly, tooling, and automated processes.
- Lead or support Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, and structured problem-solving activities.
- Coordinate engineering changes, technical documentation, equipment suppliers, integrators, contractors, and Corporate Engineering.
- Evaluate and implement new technologies and automation to improve plant capability and performance.
Capital Projects- Lead capital and major engineering projects from concept through completion.
- Develop project scopes, schedules, budgets, resource requirements, and ROI justification.
- Coordinate suppliers, contractors, Corporate Engineering, and internal departments.
- Ensure projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and to specifications.
- Support equipment installation, commissioning, validation, and startup.
Safety, Quality & Compliance- Champion a Safety-First culture and ensure equipment and processes are safe and compliant.
- Support OSHA, EPA, environmental, life-safety, and other regulatory requirements.
- Ensure corrective actions from incidents, audits, inspections, and identified deficiencies are completed.
- Partner with Quality and Operations to support ISO/IATF requirements, audits, AQP/PPAP, and continuous quality improvement.
- Identify opportunities to reduce waste, energy use, downtime, defects, and environmental impact.
Budget & Vendor Management- Develop and manage Maintenance and Engineering operating and capital budgets.
- Control departmental spending and identify cost-reduction opportunities without compromising safety, quality, or reliability.
- Evaluate repair-versus-replace decisions and equipment investments.
- Manage relationships with equipment manufacturers, suppliers, contractors, and technical service providers.
- Monitor and report maintenance, reliability, project, and department KPIs.
Supervisory Responsibilities- Directly supervises assigned Maintenance and Manufacturing Engineering personnel, including work planning, hiring, training, performance management, coaching, development, recognition, discipline, staffing, and succession planning.
- Ensures adequate technical coverage to support plant operations.
Education & Experience- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Electrical Engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent technical education and experience may be considered.
- 10+ years of progressive manufacturing engineering, maintenance, engineering, or skilled-trade experience required.
- Significant heavy-duty or industrial manufacturing experience required.
- Demonstrated technical leadership and personnel-management experience required.
- Manufacturing experience with machining, die casting, tooling, assembly, finishing, inspection, automation, or related processes preferred.
- Experience with equipment reliability, capital projects, controls, automation, Lean/Six Sigma, and ISO/IATF preferred.

Environmental & Physical Demands- Occupational noise exposure is high during performance of many required duties. Adequate hearing protection is provided and required.
- Occupational exposure to fumes, dust, lubricants, chemicals, and other manufacturing-related conditions may occur. Required PPE, including safety glasses and steel-toed industrial footwear, must be worn as applicable.
- The position requires regular presence on the manufacturing floor and may require standing, walking, bending, reaching, climbing, and working around operating machinery and equipment.
- Some duties require reaching and lifting objects up to 50 lbs. and occasionally up to 60 lbs.
- The position may require work in confined, elevated, hot, cold, wet, or otherwise challenging industrial environments.
