Job Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Project Engineer within our Advanced Programs group. Under limited supervision, this Project Engineer will scope and lead mission effectiveness analysis leading to unmanned aircraft system attributes. In addition, this Project Engineer may support technical development of competitive proposals for existing and new DoD customers.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Supports operation of engineering systems and documents any problems.
  • Crafts analysis plans and trade studies to derive aircraft system attributes and requirements to achieve desired mission effects. Analysis conducted in a simulation environment which includes aircraft performance models, threat models and mission effects models.
  • Establishes trade study criteria appropriate for the problem statement allowing multiple solutions to be evaluated for greatest overall benefit
  • Structures analysis methodology and milestones to perform increasingly complex analysis of alternatives, maturing the options showing the most promise until the final study is completed with final performance metrics determined
  • Understand unmanned aircraft platform performance tradeoffs such as weight, payload capacity, operational range, cost, survivability, kinetic and non-kinetic effects.
  • Familiarity with engineering tools such as Matlab, AFSIM, Simulink, Jira, Confluence or similar tools
  • Define approach to select relevant threat information, develop appropriate models for simulation and enhance threat models over time
  • Define approach to develop and improve aircraft and mission system effectiveness models
  • Management and prioritization of limited analysis resources to best achieve end results required by multiple projects
  • Derives leadership vision for mission effectiveness analysis into executable analysis with defined inputs required, assumptions and cost/schedule projection
  • Devises new approaches to resolve unusual or complex engineering problems.
  • Troubleshoot conflicting design/development requirements, difficult coordination requirements, and special material requirements.
  • Understands digital models and can contribute to development of behavioral and/or functional capabilities at the component, subsystem, and system level.
  • Provides documentation and makes technical presentations as required.
  • May represent the organization as the prime technical contact on small contracts or single component projects.
  • Provides direction to design or technical staff to accomplish one or more studies.
  • Supports program capture and business development activities including attendance of industry days, generating of white papers, proposal technical volumes and basis of estimates and BOMs for proposal cost volumes
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
  • Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

Job Qualifications

  • Typically requires a Bachelor's degree, Master's degree or PhD in Engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive Engineering experience as follows; nine or more years of experience with a Bachelor's degree, seven or more years of experience with a Master's degree, or four or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent Engineering experience in lieu of education
  • Demonstrates an extensive technical expertise and application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice with the ability to organize, plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones, with some experience in project leadership.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of engineering concepts, principles, codes, and theory; experience demonstrating a broad application of those concepts; and, expanding knowledge of principles, concepts, theory, and practices in related technical specialties.
  • Must possess the ability to develop and communicate new concepts; apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment; organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases; and, determine the appropriate approach at the task level or, with assistance, at the project level to provide solutions to a range of complex problems.
  • Must have strong communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team; able to perform complex tasks in one or more engineering areas; capable of representing the organization as a prime technical contact and, lead a team of moderately experienced professional employees on single component projects.
  • Able to work extended hours as required.
  • Multi-tasking team player with a hands-on approach; customer-focused, formulates plans based on the development of innovative new designs in resolving advanced technical engineering problems.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance is required, existing clearance is highly desired.
