Full Job Description
Position Title: Engineer

Reports To: Vice President of Engineering

Position Purpose:

Supports the reliability, planning, operation, and continuous improvement of the Cooperative's electric distribution system through engineering analysis, protection coordination, SCADA support, work planning, project management, and standards development.

Job Dimensions:

Internal Responsibility - Operations, Engineering, GIS, Metering, Member Services, IT, and Construction.

External Responsibility - Consultants, Contractors, Vendors, Power Suppliers, Regulatory Agencies, and Members.

Principal Accountabilities:
  1. Develop and maintain protection coordination studies to ensure proper operation of protective devices throughout the distribution system.
  2. Analyze system performance, loading, voltage profiles, and reliability metrics and provide recommendations for improvement.
  3. Support administration, maintenance, and continuous improvement of SCADA and distribution automation systems.
  4. Assist in the development, maintenance, and execution of the Cooperative's One-Year and Five-Year Work Plans.
  5. Prepare engineering evaluations, cost estimates, and technical justifications for capital improvement projects.
  6. Manage assigned engineering projects from planning through commissioning while maintaining schedule, budget, and quality expectations.
  7. Coordinate engineering activities with operations personnel, contractors, consultants, vendors, and power suppliers.
  8. Perform fault current studies and recommend system modifications necessary to maintain safe and reliable system operation.
  9. Develop, maintain, and improve engineering standards, specifications, and construction drawings to support consistent system design and construction practices.
  10. Review equipment inspection reports and develop corrective action recommendations to address identified deficiencies.
  11. Provide technical support to operations personnel for troubleshooting, switching, outage restoration, and field construction activities.
  12. Support long-range material planning by identifying equipment requirements and assisting with procurement forecasting efforts.
  13. Conduct voltage recorder analysis and investigate power quality concerns reported by members or operations personnel.
  14. Participate in contingency planning and system resiliency initiatives to strengthen the Cooperative's ability to respond to outages and emergency events.
  15. Support regulatory, safety, and compliance initiatives by ensuring engineering activities meet applicable Cooperative, ERCOT, PUCT, and industry requirements.
  16. Participate in major outage restoration efforts and emergency response activities as required to support reliable electric service to Cooperative members.
  17. Supporting Engineering team members as needed in evaluating system reliability during large load requests to connect to the distribution network.


Minimum Requirements:

Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an accredited institution.

Operational Experience: Electric utility, electric cooperative, municipal utility, or engineering consulting experience preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Project management, technical writing, and analytical problem solving. Distribution systems, protection coordination, fault current analysis, SCADA, and distribution planning preferred
