Key Responsibilities:
  • Performs engineering activities necessary for the safe, efficient, reliable and environmentally responsible planning of the interconnected transmission systems on the Island of Newfoundland and in Labrador.
  • Plans the interconnected transmission systems, supports the development and completion of appropriate studies to determine transmission and terminal equipment requirements to maintain a reliable supply of power and energy for customers.
  • Performs power system analysis in support of the day-to-day operation of the Island and Labrador Interconnection Systems. This includes analysis in support of outage planning.
  • Performs power system studies involving load flow, stability and fault analysis using Siemens Gridscale X PSS E software (Power System Simulator for Engineering). Assesses the existing transmission system using predetermined planning criteria to determine when and where problems will occur with regard to system capacity and forecasted customer growth. Formulates alternatives to alleviate these problems and completes technical and economic evaluation of the alternatives. Prepares technical reports detailing the alternatives studied and the recommended solution.
  • Supports the Integration Support Team in the integration of all new major assets and customer interconnections to the Island and Labrador Interconnection Systems.

What You'll Need:
  • Graduation from a recognized university with a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering. An equivalent combination of experience and education from a recognized post secondary institution may also be considered.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience. Experience in power utility planning and operation with a high level of knowledge in power system and engineering economic analysis would be an asset.
  • Eligible for membership with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador (PEGNL) as either a professional member or engineer-in-training.
  • Possess and maintain an appropriate valid driver's license.
