The Role
Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.
Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) is seeking a skilled and experienced Systems Engineer to lead the development and implementation of Systems Engineering on submarine, carrier and facility programs at NNS. The candidate will contribute to existing programs as well as develop new processes and systems engineering capabilities for future programs.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead the implementation of systems engineering on active NNS programs across the systems lifecycle including requirements development and management, verification and validation, and systems architecting.
• Lead the development and refinement of systems engineering processes, frameworks, and best practices to be applied on future programs.
• Collaborate with discipline engineering teams, program management, and external stakeholders to ensure alignment with customer needs.
• Drive the adoption and execution of Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodologies across programs to enhance efficiency and decision making.
• Mentor early career systems engineers.
Must Have
Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of relevant exempt experience;
Master's Degree and 3 years of relevant professional experience;
Ph.D. and 0 years of experience.
Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
Nice to Have
• Proficiency with MBSE Tools (Cameo, Cradle, DOORS, etc.).
• Experience with program management and maintaining cost, schedule and performance goals.
• Experience with digital engineering practices, data integration and model management processes.
• Systems Engineering certifications: INCOSE Associate Systems Engineering Professional (ASEP), OMG Certified Systems Modeling Professional (OCSMP), etc.
