The Role

Designs, develops, documents, tests and debugs applications software and systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions. Conducts multidisciplinary research and collaborates with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for product and commercial software. Determines computer user needs; analyzes system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls; prepares operating instructions; designs and develops compilers and assemblers, utility programs, and operating systems. Ensures software standards are met.

The candidate selected for this position will serve as software engineer in test for the SwCoE Test Team. In addition to supporting software verification and test automation, the candidate may also participate in requirements engineering and systems engineering activities to support broader project needs.

Must Have

Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of relevant exempt experience;
Master's Degree and 0 year of relevant professional experience

Nice to Have

The candidate for this role will be responsible for reviewing/analyzing software requirements, designing test cases to verify software implementation, develop test specfications, execute software procedures, reporting software issues, making recommendations to improve internal processes, building automated testing processes, set up, maintaining, and operating test automation frameworks, performing test automation, develop software applications, and collaborating with other software test engineers and stakeholders. The candidate engages in all aspects of the software development life cycle for shipboard network-based automation systems, including support for the planning, requirements, development, testing, quality, and configuration management of software specifically for advanced US Navy shipboard systems. This position initial and main focus is to support software manual testing for shipboard systems and support test automation, and new technologies (GenAI) for our test strategy.
• Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new software testing philosophies and have a technical emphasis in software testing, electrical, instrumentation, controls, networks, cyber, and automation.
• A deep understanding of the software test lifecycle, test automation, and both traditional and agile project management.
• Experience with Industry Standards for Software and Software Testing.
• Proven Technical Knowledge on Test Design, Test Techniques, and requirements analysis.
• An engaging individual who desires to learn complex systems.
• Proactive and responsive engagement with all internal and external customers.
• Experience with Object Oriented Programming Languages such as C++, C#, Python
• Experience with Agile + DevOps
• Experience working with Databases such as MySQL/MS Access
• Experience working with Linux
• Experience with Software Configuration Management tools and processes
• Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of products, specifically Excel, Word, PowerPoint
• Good communication skills and the ability to work well with various teams
• ISTQB Certifications are a plus.
