Full Job Description

Red Chris is an open-pit copper-gold mine in the famous Golden Triangle of northern British Columbia, situated on the traditional territory of the Tahltan Nation. As a fly-in, fly-out operation, Red Chris is reached via charter flights from multiple locations in BC and Alberta, with teams working on a rotational schedule. Currently an active open-pit producer, Red Chris is poised for an exciting transformation - we are developing a high-value underground block cave that will extend the mine's life for decades and unlock even more resources. The remote location fosters a close-knit "camp" community where safety and teamwork come first. Your Contribution

As an Engineer, Mine Development, you'll support completion of underground development for the Red Chris Block Cave Project. This role will provide field engineering support through inspections, QA/QC activities and monitoring of key performance indicators of mine development activities. The Engineer, Mine Development will also support the execution of key underground projects and initiatives such as blasting optimization, dispatch and others as needed to support project success.

As Part of Our Team, You Will

  • Regularly conduct field inspections to monitor safety, progress and quality of underground mining.
  • Monitor key performance indicators of mine development activities, recommending actions to leadership on site as required.
  • Assist with management of underground development contractor, including month-end reporting, deficiency tracking and progress claims.
  • Communicate with mine development contractor deficiencies and project priorities to ensure compliance to design and schedule.
  • Lead or support underground projects or improvement initiatives.
  • Conduct other activities as required to support safe, efficient and successful underground mining.


Prerequisites for Your Success in This Role

  • Degree in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Eligibility to register with EGBC (P.Eng or EIT).
  • Experience with underground rapid development techniques.
  • Proven experience managing or supporting projects.
  • Experience working with or for an underground contractor (preferred).
  • Proficiency with Deswik mine planning software (Spatial, Planning, MDM).

Your Work Environment

  • Work onsite at a remote location (Red Chris Mine) on a 15 days on 13 days off rotation
  • Work closely with operational teams and technical services for both Newmont and Business Partners
  • Routinely working underground conducting field inspections and QA/QC activities.
