Description

Job overview and key Responsibilities:

As an Engineer - Interiors, you will provide engineering support for aircraft cabin systems, components, configurations, and maintenance programs across United's fleet. This role is responsible for supporting the design, operation, maintenance, performance, reliability, and repair of aircraft interior systems and components while ensuring safe, compliant, and cost-effective operations.

The Engineer - Interiors partners with internal operational teams, OEMs, suppliers, and regulatory agencies to develop technical solutions, investigate failures, support modifications, and improve cabin reliability and customer experience. This position may support both line and base maintenance operations, engineering projects, and fleet initiatives based on operational needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop engineering solutions, implementation plans, project justifications, and cost/benefit analyses to support fleet and cabin interior initiatives
  • Provide technical support for aircraft interior systems and components including seating, monuments, galleys, lavatories, lighting, in-flight entertainment (IFE), cabin equipment, and connectivity systems
  • Review Service Bulletins (SBs), Engineering Orders (EOs), and other OEM technical data for applicability to United's fleet
  • Coordinate FAA approvals, certification documentation, STC activities, and regulatory compliance requirements as needed
  • Support troubleshooting, root cause investigations, and corrective actions related to interior system reliability and operational performance
  • Organize and manage multiple engineering priorities and deliverables across line and base maintenance operations
  • Coordinate with cross-functional operational groups to ensure airworthiness, safety, reliability, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency
  • Collaborate with suppliers, manufacturers, and internal stakeholders to support component improvements, repairs, modifications, and warranty recovery efforts
  • Assist with maintenance program updates, technical specification revisions, and configuration management activities
  • Evaluate operational and financial impacts of engineering decisions to support effective fleet asset utilization and long-term reliability strategies


NOTE: This position is based at the CSC - Willis Tower in Chicago, IL. This position follows a hybrid work schedule with an expectation of three days onsite per week.

  • Experience with CATIA, AutoCAD, or other aircraft design/modeling software
  • Knowledge of FAA regulations, including FAR Parts 25, 121, and 145
  • Airline, aerospace, or aircraft interiors engineering experience
  • Experience supporting aircraft cabin systems, including seating, IFE, galleys, lavatories, monuments, lighting, or connectivity systems
  • Experience supporting Boeing and/or Airbus aircraft maintenance programs and modifications
  • Familiarity with aircraft certification, STC, or modification processes
  • Experience collaborating with OEMs, suppliers, maintenance teams, and operational stakeholders
