Full Job Description

Job Description:

Microchip is looking for a SERDES Characterization Engineer II to join our electrical characterization team in Burnaby, BC, Canada. The electrical characterization team is a part of the Product Engineering Department and is responsible for analog validation and optimization of the SERDES interfaces on our new products. These electrical interfaces typically run at speeds up to 32Gbps NRZ or 128Gbps PAM4 and support multiple protocols including PCIe, CXL and OIF. Characterization engineers develop automated test platforms to optimize SERDES electrical performance across process, voltage and temperature (PVT) extremes to ensure the design is viable for high volume deployment into datacenter, automotive or space applications.

Responsibilities:

As a member of the SERDES team you will contribute to the characterization, analysis and debug of new high-speed SERDES designs. You will work closely with mixed-signal designers to gain insight into the operation of advanced analog circuits including multi-mode transmitters, PLLs, clock/data recovery circuits, and receiver circuits such as CTLEs, AFEs, FFEs and DFEs.

  • Contributing to R&D on new mixed-signal IP by optimizing electrical performance on state-of-the-art SERDES designs.

  • Developing automated test scripts and custom FW to support SERDES performance tuning.

  • Designing high performance PCBs and other test hardware to support electrical compliance tests.

  • Debugging SERDES circuits to root cause failures and identify design improvements.

  • Authoring detailed characterization plans and high-quality technical analyses and reports.

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • BS/MS in Electrical Engineering or Engineering Physics.

  • 1-2 years related experience in the field

  • Knowledge of semiconductor fundamentals, circuit theory and high-speed signals

  • Hands-on proficiency with lab instruments such as spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, BERTS and VNAs.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong communication and presentation skills.

  • Hardware experience with high-speed analog circuits in a lab or test environment

  • Familiarity with script-based test automation using Python or other languages
