Job Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for an Experienced Engineer in our Army FRACAS Engineering Group with a propulsion background. Under general supervision with limited review, this position within the Engineering Field Support department performs FRACAS (Failure Reporting, Analysis and Corrective Action System) engineering, which includes detailed root cause investigations and development of effective corrective actions based on analysis

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Identify Root Cause of failure on various reported field failures of Unmanned Aircraft Systems and components through logical and systematic testing and troubleshooting.
  • Coordinate a team of multi-disciplined engineers throughout the entire failure analysis process and make recommendations to the Failure Review Board (FRB).
  • Determine resolution of UAV system failures and corrective actions in support of the FRACAS program.
  • Drive reliability improvement efforts and issue resolution with Engineering, Manufacturing, Programs, Material Control, and Quality departments.
  • Review of fault isolation and troubleshooting procedures for UAV systems.
  • Develop test procedures, perform functional testing, analyze test results, and draw conclusions for equipment and systems in assigned areas.
  • Devise new approaches to resolve unusual or complex engineering problems.
  • Maintain FRACAS database, monitor investigation status, track open FRACAS investigations, and generate reports for management and customers.
  • Create and deliver technical presentations to management and customers.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers as required.
  • Interface with engineering, manufacturing, test, quality, and field personnel to identify, classify, report, and track failures and corresponding corrective actions during contractor or Government testing at all levels of hardware and software systems and components./
  • Coordinate with engineering to ensure failures are analyzed, root cause determined, failure report written, and corrective actions are effective.
  • Categorize failures in FRACAS database and identify trends
  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company
  • Other duties as required.

Job Qualifications

  • Typically requires a bachelors or masters degree in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and two or more years of engineering experience with a bachelors degree. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
  • Must have a complete understanding of engineering concepts, principles, codes, and theory; experience demonstrating a broad application of those concepts; and, expanding knowledge of principles, concepts, theory, and practices in related technical specialties.
  • Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly; apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment; organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases; and, determine the appropriate approach at the task level or, with assistance, at the project level to provide solutions to a range of complex problems.
  • Must have excellent communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team; able to perform complex tasks in one engineering area; and lead a team of less experienced professional employees on semi-routine tasks. Able to work extended hours as required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD security clearance is required.
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Direct experience supporting a FRACAS program.
  • Familiarity with FRACAS software or databases and a working knowledge of Reliability Analysis and Failure Mode / Fault Tree Analysis.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex aircraft systems including avionics, flight controls, data links, engines, servos, and mechanical systems.
  • Experience with Aircraft propulsion systems, diesel turbocharged aircraft engines used in unmanned aircraft.
  • Knowledge of propulsion system components such as fuel systems, engineer controls, exhaust systems, cooling systems, and power transmission systems.
  • Ability to operate various test equipment.
  • Understanding of aircraft structures, flight dynamics, and environmental issues.
  • Experience using data logging software as a troubleshooting tool.
  • Experience in FMECA, MTBF, and reliability calculations.
