Engineer II, Electrical

Role Overview

The Engineer II, Electrical position is responsible for designing the electrical power distribution system for the auxiliary equipment of Gas Turbine projects. Voltage levels are primarily low voltage, 600V and below, with equipment such as MCCs, panelboards, low-voltage transformers, DC systems, and batteries. The position also leads efforts, collaborates with leadership, and provides strategic oversight to ensure efficiencies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop electrical design documentation, including single-line diagrams, panelboard schedules, electrical load lists, motor lists, wiring diagrams, control schematics, cable schedules, termination schedules, electrical drawing packages, and BOMs.
  • Develop power system plans, lighting plans, electrical room layouts, elevation drawings, conduit/cable tray arrangements, hazardous area classifications, and related electrical design deliverables
  • Perform equipment, cable, conduit, spacing, illumination, breaker, overload device, and relay sizing calculations required by project complexity.
  • Develop and/or review electrical, control, and instrumentation wiring diagrams and cable lists generated by SmartPlant Electrical, SmartPlant Instrumentation, SmartPlant 3D, or comparable database-driven design tools.
  • Assist with purchase specifications, vendor selection, vendor/customer/field technical inquiries, and integration of parent company design requirements.
  • Interpret and design to applicable project electrical codes and standards, including requirements from authorities having jurisdiction and codes such as NEC/NFPA 70, CEC, IEC, ISA, and AGA.
  • Support project engineering deliverables, manufacturing, commissioning, product design simplification, cost reduction, quality improvements, and development of new and existing product lines.
  • Comply with safety policies and procedures, communicate effectively across the organization, support team goals, meet schedule deadlines, work with minimal supervision from the electrical project lead, and assist junior engineers and interns.


Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in electrical engineeringfrom college or university and 3-5 Years extensive direct experience technical and/or practical experience in industrial facility power distribution design up to 600VAC and 220VDC with signal propagationdesired.
  • Working knowledge of electrical design systems for industrial facilities required; power plant experience and experience with generators rated 150 MVA and above for gas or steam turbines with auxiliaries is a plus.
  • Familiarity with electrical codes, industry standards, and best practices required, including strong familiarity with National Electrical Code/NFPA 70.
  • Knowledge of NEMA, IEC, IEEE, ISA, ANSI, NFPA 70E, UL, CSA, TUV, AGA, and other applicable codes and standards is desirable.
  • SmartPlant Electrical expertise is a plus, including registered reports, symbol creation, filters, rules, reference data, batch operations, data maintenance, and effective tool utilization.
  • SmartPlant Instrumentation, SmartSketch, AutoCAD, Revit 3D, or comparable 3D electrical design tool experience is a plus.
  • Minimum two (2) years of SmartPlant 3D experience or significant expertise creating electrical tray/conduit specifications, designing trays/conduits, creating tray/conduit drawings, and extracting bills of materials from the electrical module of S3D.
  • Inclination toward computer programming languages is highly encouraged.
  • Ability to handle various assignments, including rework, in a timely manner; travel up to 10%.
