Site Road Plan Review Division About the PositionThis position provides entry-level engineering and administration support within the Division of Site Road Plan Review, DPIE. The incumbent ensures that permit plans and engineering documents comply with County, national building codes, and State Regulations. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, engineering design and plan review of bridges and buildings, retaining walls, engineering of non-standard structures, structural computations, shop drawings, and retaining walls. It is important to understand that DPIE is a service agency. As such, this position requires the incumbent to be physically and medically capable of working both inside and outside in extreme weather conditions (heat/cold, wet/humid, snow/ice, and/or dry/arid conditions). The incumbent is required to be both physically and medically capable of remaining in a stationary position, either sitting at a computer terminal, standing at a service counter, or in a mobile position, or as deemed necessary. This position requires the incumbent to be capable of lifting, pulling, or carrying items that exceed five (5) pounds, as well as moving office supplies and equipment that weigh up to thirty (30) pounds. Please be advised that, regardless of the incumbent's normally assigned duties, this position requires the incumbent to be willing and both physically and medically capable of working overtime and on weekends for special program events. About The AgencyThe Department of Permitting, Inspections and Enforcement (DPIE) is responsible for coordinating and enforcing standards that control what goes on before, during, and after construction. Staff from nine agencies, who work cooperatively on permit processing, business licensing, plan review, inspection and enforcement comprise Department of Permitting, Inspections, and Enforcement. The Mission of the Department of Permitting, Inspections, and Enforcement is to promote economic development in Prince George's County and protect the safety of County residents, businesses, and visitors through efficient permitting, inspection and licensing services to ensure compliance with established building, zoning and property standards codes.
Examples of Work- Reviews architectural and structural plans for compliance with the Building Codes and the ADA Requirements.
- Reviews the structural design of all structures to confirm that each structure is capable of supporting the design loads associated with the intended use. Calculates permit fees in accordance with the approved fee schedule.
- Performs a structural analysis of existing structures for compliance with the Building Codes and general engineering practice. Performs independent inspections on new and/or existing structures having unusual and/or complex concerns when directed.
- Provides information, assistance, and advise to architects, engineers, and citizens on details of the County Code. 10 days Revised: 2/2025 Provides information and assistance to architects, engineers, and citizens on the permit process.
- Consults with other staff, engineers, architects, developers, and the public on engineering and code issues.
- Conducts plans review at the Permits Counter and treats customers with respect, civility, caring, and courtesy due to them as members of our community.
- Attends webinars on structural engineering-related and code seminars offered by the State and professional organizations as directed. Reviews job-related professional periodicals and publications and collects pertinent data for use on the job.
- Performs other duties as assigned, consistent with the general scope of responsibility of the position.
- Responds immediately to a call-out for emergency operations.
- Fully participates, as assigned, in all activities of emergency operations and special activities.
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the engineering or related scientific field determined by the requirements of the position (e.g., civil, environmental, transportation, architectural, mechanical, fire protection, agricultural, agronomy, chemical, industrial, construction)
OR A - Professional Engineer (PE) License may be substituted for the degree
