Job Summary
Under limited supervision, this position provides professional civil engineering support for municipal infrastructure, public works, and private development projects. Reviews engineering plans, specifications, calculations, reports, and technical documents; performs engineering analyses and calculations; inspects construction projects; prepares technical reports, correspondence, cost estimates, and recommendations; coordinates multiple projects; and communicates technical information to engineers, contractors, developers, elected officials, regulatory agencies, and the public. The position works independently with minimal supervision and applies sound engineering judgment to complex engineering problems. Reports to the City Engineer.

Essential Functions

• Reviews engineering plans, specifications, calculations, reports, and technical documents for accuracy and compliance with applicable standards and requirements.
• Conducts engineering calculations and analyses related to stormwater, drainage, transportation, utilities, and other public infrastructure.
• Prepares technical reports, engineering correspondence, analyses, cost estimates, and recommendations for engineering and infrastructure projects.
• Support budget preparation, cost estimating, and capital improvement planning for municipal infrastructure and public works projects.
• Manages and coordinates multiple engineering projects and assignments while meeting established deadlines and competing priorities.
• Inspects construction projects and site work and evaluates compliance with approved plans, specifications, construction methods, and materials.
• Meets with the general public to discuss complaints, requests, and recommendations on drainage issues, capital projects, road conditions, and right-of-way boundaries.
• Interacts and communicates with a wide variety of groups and individuals to include citizens, Mayor, Council, engineering staff, Planning Commission, City department heads and City employees.
• Performs other duties as assigned

Education and Experience
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering and three (3) years of progressively responsible civil engineering experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Special Qualifications:
Engineering Intern (E.I.) with successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering exam in the State of Alabama, or the ability to obtain licensure through reciprocity within a timeframe established by the City.
Professional Engineering (P.E.) licensure in Civil Engineering in the State of Alabama preferred, or the ability to obtain licensure through reciprocity with the timeframe established by the City.

Successful applicants must have a valid driver's license and pass a criminal background check (including driving history), pre-employment physical and drug screen.
The City's group insurance is currently through Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama. The employees' health, vision, hearing and dental premiums are paid in full by the City. The City pays 50% of family coverage. The employee cost for family health, vision and hearing is $67.47 per semi-monthly deduction cycle and dental is $10.00 per semi-monthly deduction cycle.
