Job DescriptionThe Field Engineer will be responsible for the overall planning, organizing, scheduling and controlling the safe, timely, and efficient operation of the Field Engineering section. Responsible for reviewing layouts for constructability, direct interaction with constructing organizations and contractors to determine construction of drawn layout, resolve issues related to construction and interference and coordinate with outside agencies when necessary to ensure work will be completed as designed. Provides technical counsel and guidance in all matters related to construction standards. Ensure construction is completed by constructing organizations as per procedure. Assist Gas Operations and Construction Management- Gas with engineering support as needed.
ResponsibilitiesCore Responsibilities- Create and monitor business plans, goals, master plans, budgets, and rate case items. Analyze program data and trends to assess effectiveness and recommend improvements or changes.
- Oversee and evaluate specialty field work such as CISBOT, liners/rolldown, HDD, pipe bursting, bridges, and other trenchless technologies.
- Prepare, update, and interpret Company specifications in compliance with PSC, DOT, OSHA, and all applicable codes and regulations.
- Provide guidance to internal teams regarding specification requirements.
- Provide engineering guidance to field personnel, and acts as the Company's representative when dealing with external organizations and agencies.
- Prepare technical reports and conduct technical presentations to all levels of management.
- Evaluate projects for cost savings, bundling opportunities, and field constructability.
- Assist with project scope and develop associated engineering design requirements.
- Perform constructability reviews to ensure designs reflect real field conditions.
- Conduct pre-job field walks to validate site constraints and confirm design assumptions.
- Attend community board and municipal meetings to address project impacts and coordinate stakeholder needs.
- Coordinate with System planning to support job sequencing to ensure efficient execution and minimize customer or system impact.
- Perform embedment calculations for facility protection, complete regulator sizing and service bypass sizing.
- Evaluate and approve scope changes when field conditions differ from design.
- Lead the engineering effort for regulator station abandonment, facilitating communication and overseeing the projects.
- Respond to emergency events requiring engineering support for system safety, facility isolation, service restoration, and technical decision-making.
QualificationsRequired Education/Experience- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering and 3 years of full-time engineering work experience specifically in design, construction or operations.
Preferred Education/Experience- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical/Civil Engineering and 4-6 years of engineering work experience specifically in gas, utility, or infrastructure engineering.
Relevant Work Experience- Task oriented with good financial and analytical perspective, required.
- Experience with Word, Excel and PowerPoint, is required.
- Ability to take ownership of responsibility of projects, is required.
- Familiarity with 16 NYCRR, 255, and 49 CFR 192, is preferred.
- Experience coordinating field work, contractors, or multi-discipline engineering teams, is preferred.
- Experience with Byers, Vision, or GIS systems, is preferred.

- Ability to climb in and out of manholes and excavations
- Stand, walk, and climb ladders and stairs for the duration of the workday
- Ability to travel to company locations to work on storm restoration and heat contingencies
Additional Physical Demands- The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
