Salary Range: $124,000.00 to $153,000.00

The anticipated salary range represents the estimated base pay for this role. Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors, and may vary from the posted range

The Role

This position is for the lead electrical engineer in the FORD Class Valve Actuator Engineering team. The selected candidate will support the development of a new electro-mechanical actuator series and support in-service electro-mechanical actuators. Responsibilities will include:
  • Design of new actuator motors and controller circuit card assemblies
  • Electrical qualification of the new actuators, which includes Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) testing, Electrical Power (MIL-STD-1399) testing, Motor Characterization testing, and Operational testing
  • Support root-cause analysis of technical issues with in-service actuators
  • Manage obsolescence of in-service and future actuators
  • Mentor and develop junior electrical engineers


Researches, develops, designs, and tests electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks. Designs electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes.

Must Have

Bachelor's Degree and 9 years of relevant exempt experience;
Master's Degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience;
Ph.D. and 4 years of experience.

Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Nice to Have
• Familiarity with motor controllers and circuit card design
• Familiarity with the induction and permanent magnet motors
• Experience with MATLAB/Simulink
