Salary Range: $99,000.00 to $122,000.00

The Role

Researches, develops, designs, and tests electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks. Designs electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes.

As an Electrical Engineer at Newport News Shipbuilding, you will develop technical proposals to address problems or improve performance for various Interior Communication (IC) systems for the US Navy. You will be responsible for coordinating the implementation of system integration and design as well as assist in troubleshooting of IC systems. You will also be responsible for researching, developing, designing, and testing electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks. As an Electrical Engineer you will design electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes.

Additional responsibilities include:
  • Writing technical manuals or other technical documents to support operation of electrical equipment and systems.
  • Review documents to ensure they are technically accurate.
  • Interface with customers and suppliers to fulfill technical information requests.
  • Troubleshoot IC systems.
  • Develop systems and/or equipment modifications to correct deficiencies or improve performance.
  • Test equipment to troubleshoot or verify proper operation of equipment after design modifications are developed.


Must Have

Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of relevant exempt experience;
Master's Degree and 3 years of relevant professional experience;
Ph.D. and 0 years of experience.

Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
