Engineer - Design - The Centre

Position Summary

The selected candidate will be responsible for designing new products and processes and improving and maintaining existing products. May conduct design analysis on components and/or assemblies to assist in the development process by ensuring designs are cost efficient, manufacturable, and reliable.

Key Accountabilities
• Concept and detailed design of automotive components.
• Conduct research into the feasibility, design, operation and performance of mechanisms, components, and systems.
• Plan and manage projects, and prepare material, cost and timing estimates, reports and design specifications for machinery and systems.
• Create CAD models and drawings in accordance with industry standards.
• Lead dFMEA development, specify DV and PV requirements, and specify validation and development tests.
• Supervise technicians, technologists, and other engineers and review and approve designs, calculations and cost estimates.
• Manage the production of prototype parts and assemblies.
• Manage projects in compliance with APQP and ISO 9000.
• Maintain and organize design and project documentation per internal and customer requirements including confidentiality.
• Regular dialogue and visits with customers and suppliers.

Minimum Requirements
• A university degree in Engineering.
• Licensing by a provincial or territorial association of professional engineers is required to approve engineering drawings and reports and to practice as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.).
• Three to five years of related experience.
• Design experience in one or more of the following considered an asset: transmissions, wet clutches, oil pumps, shafts, gears, castings. Project management and APQP experience.
• Knowledge of mechanics of materials, metallurgy, and materials selection, fluid flow, testing methods and related analysis and calculations.
• Knowledge of assemblies, weldments, hydraulic cylinders and electric/hydraulic power systems is required.
• Knowledge of design and manufacturing disciplines including dFMEA, pFMEA, DVP&R, reliability, failure analysis, problem solving, SPC, DCP.
• Ability to make indirect measurements using trigonometry and geometry.
• Have the ability to resolve conflicts and possess problem solving skills in a team or individual setting.
• Ensure that drawings adhere to required codes and standards and that information is complete and presented in a clear and concise manner.
• Ability to consult product specification books to identify capacities, dimensions and prices of particular pieces of equipment.
• CAD experience in one or more of the following considered an asset: SolidWorks, Catia, UG, I-DEAS, Pro/E.
