This role involves supervising a large engineering unit responsible for statewide coastal restoration and flood protection projects, providing expert technical guidance, and serving as the engineer of record for critical design efforts. The position acts as the top-level authority in a specialized engineering discipline, offering consultative support to executive leadership and external stakeholders while establishing policy, reviewing project proposals, and ensuring compliance with engineering standards. It also includes representing the agency and influencing policy and procedural development across the state.

Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering plus one of the following:

Two years of licensed engineering experience; or

Six years of professional engineering experience.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTIONS:
A master's degree in engineering will substitute for one year of professional engineering experience.

A doctorate degree in engineering will substitute for two years of professional engineering experience.

Advanced degrees will substitute for a maximum of two years of professional engineering experience.

There is no substitution for licensed engineering experience.

NOTES:
Engineering experience gained while licensed as a professional engineer will be accepted as licensed engineering experience.

Engineering experience gained after earning an ABET-accredited degree and prior to earning a professional engineer's license (e.g., as an engineer intern applicant, engineer intern, or equivalent) will be accepted as professional level engineering experience.

Applications will be accepted from persons licensed to practice professional engineering in states other than Louisiana. If one of those applicants is selected for the position, he/she will be required to obtain a Louisiana license prior to appointment. The hiring agency will verify that all licensing requirements are met.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:
  • Serve as the first-line Engineer Supervisor in the Engineering Division of the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA).
    1. Act in a supervisory capacity to engineers, engineering technicians, surveyors, and other technical staff
    2. Serve as the "responsible party in charge" (as defined by the engineering license board) for all work products of their non-licensed staff
  • Act as a high-level technical expert in the CPRA Engineering Division
    1. Plan, develop, design, coordinate and/or direct a number of complex, large-scale coastal restoration and flood protection projects or programs

Preferred Skills:
  • Extensive engineering experience (minimum of 6 years in the following)
    1. Cost Estimating
    2. Computing Earthen and Hydraulic Fill Volumes
    3. Preparing Design Reports/Technical Presentations
    4. Geotechnical Engineering
    5. Hydraulic and Hydrologic Engineering
    6. Coastal Engineering
    7. Preparing/Interpreting Bid Documents
  • Preference will be given to applicants with a civil engineering background

Position-Specific Details:

Appointment Type: Probational or Promotional

Compensation: The bi-weekly minimum hire rate established for this position in accordance with CPRA's Special Entrance Rate Policy is $3,316. The maximum salary for the Engineer 6 is $144,560 annually.
