DescriptionPosition OverviewThe Engineer 2 (Distribution) - Technical Trainer is responsible for developing, delivering, and continuously improving technical training programs focused on electrical distribution engineering principles, company standards, system design methodologies, and regulatory compliance requirements.
This role serves as both a subject matter expert and educator, helping engineers strengthen their technical knowledge, engineering practices, and project execution capabilities. The successful candidate will leverage real-world distribution engineering experience to translate complex technical concepts into engaging and practical learning experiences.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in electrical distribution engineering, excellent communication and presentation skills, and a passion for coaching, mentoring, and developing engineering talent.
RequirementsKey ResponsibilitiesTechnical Training & Development- Develop, facilitate, and deliver technical training programs for distribution engineering personnel.
- Create engaging classroom, virtual, and hands-on learning experiences.
- Design and maintain training curriculum, course materials, presentations, exercises, and reference guides.
- Ensure training content aligns with Georgia Power Company standards, engineering practices, and business objectives.
- Evaluate training effectiveness and implement improvements based on participant feedback and organizational needs.
Distribution Engineering Instruction- Provide technical instruction on:
- Electrical distribution system design
- Load flow analysis
- Voltage drop calculations
- Network optimization
- Distribution planning principles
- System reliability considerations
- Engineering design methodologies
- Reinforce company engineering standards and best practices.
- Support consistent application of design requirements across engineering teams.
Mentoring & Coaching- Mentor and coach engineers to improve technical competency and professional development.
- Provide guidance on engineering problem-solving and project execution.
- Assist engineers with understanding company procedures, standards, and documentation requirements.
- Support workforce development initiatives and knowledge transfer activities.
Compliance & Quality Assurance- Promote compliance with company standards, industry regulations, and engineering requirements.
- Reinforce safety practices and quality expectations within all training programs.
- Ensure training materials remain current with evolving regulatory and organizational requirements.
- Support audit readiness and engineering governance initiatives.
Continuous Improvement- Identify opportunities to enhance training delivery methods and learning outcomes.
- Collaborate with engineering leadership to address skill gaps and workforce development needs.
- Maintain awareness of industry trends, emerging technologies, and evolving engineering practices.
- Recommend updates to training programs that improve workforce capability and performance.
Documentation & Project Support- Support engineering documentation best practices.
- Assist with technical procedure development and updates.
- Provide subject matter expertise for engineering process improvement initiatives.
- Partner with engineering teams to ensure consistency in project execution and technical standards.
Required QualificationsEducation- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering required.
- Electrical Engineering degree preferred.
Experience- 5-10 years of electrical distribution engineering experience.
- Experience designing, analyzing, and supporting electrical distribution systems.
- Prior experience training, mentoring, coaching, or developing engineering personnel.
- Experience applying engineering standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Experience supporting utility operations, distribution planning, or engineering projects.
