This is a multi-level posting. Candidates may be considered for any of the posted levels, depending on education, years of experience and depth of expertise.

Opportunities exist on MidAmerican Energy's Substation Engineering team to develop expertise in substation physical design, protection and controls integration, renewable energy interconnections, high-voltage transmission systems and project and technical leadership.

As part of our Substation Engineering team, you will design and deliver critical infrastructure supporting transmission, distribution, renewable energy integration, large industrial customers and emerging technologies including digital substations and 765-kV transmission systems.

The successful candidate will support a diverse portfolio of transmission and distribution substation projects associated with system reliability, load growth, renewable energy integration and emerging customer demands.

Position is located in Davenport, Iowa, or Des Moines, Iowa

Responsibilities

Provide engineering services for the planning, design and construction of substation project additions to MidAmerican Energy Company's energy delivery system. (50%) Provide technical project management for certain phases of a project including scheduling, design, estimates, engineering specifications, drawings, materials procurement, construction contracts, cost tracking and project cost projections. (20%) Assist with engineering studies and investigations and assist with preparing oral and written reports. (10%) Provide engineering assistance to other departments and perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned. (10%) Provide technical input to assist in development of project planning. (10%) Performs additional responsibilities as requested or assigned. Demonstration of knowledge and understanding of human performance improvement techniques. Evaluate present practices and implement processes, concepts, training and tools to prevent, detect and correct human errors that may adversely impact the safe, reliable operation of the electric transmission and distribution system.

Engineer 1 - Substation Engineering

Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution. Effective oral and written communication skills. Effective analytical and problem-solving skills. Engineer 2-Substation Engineering

Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution. One to three years of engineering experience. Effective oral and written communication skills. Sr Engineer-Substation Engineering

Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution. Five years of industry experience as a practicing engineer, and must be a licensed PE. If no PE license then must have eight or more years as a practicing engineer. Effective oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills. Effective interpersonal skills and leadership abilities. Effective analytical and problem-solving skills Advanced project management skills; ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently. Sr Engineer 2 - Substation Engineering

Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an accredited institution. Eight years industry experience. Requires PE. If no PE license, must have 10 years as a practicing engineer. Long-term planning skills to establish and pursue long-range goals and objectives. Effective understanding of utility and engineering economics. Organizational and project management skills. Fifteen years of successful industry experience as a practicing engineer with experience performing highly technical work of a specialized nature.
