Engagement Leader: Integration, Alliances & Organizational Effectiveness

Role Description

Engagement Leaders play a central role in Vantage's client work and firm leadership. They lead complex consulting engagements, advise senior executives, develop and mentor consulting teams, grow client relationships, and contribute to the continued development of Vantage's capabilities and intellectual capital.

This Engagement Leader will have particular expertise and interest in M&A integration, strategic alliances and partnerships, and organizational and operating-model effectiveness, with a primary focus on life sciences and biopharma clients.

The successful candidate will help clients navigate moments of significant organizational complexity and change-for example, integrating an acquisition, establishing or strengthening a strategic alliance, evolving an operating model, redesigning governance and decision-making, or improving the effectiveness of a leadership team or cross-functional organization.

Engagement Leaders combine structured problem-solving and business judgment with an ability to work effectively in ambiguous, highly dynamic environments. They are expected to move comfortably between strategic questions and practical implementation, helping clients translate ambition into concrete organizational decisions, plans, and ways of working.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead complex client engagements focused on acquisition integration, alliance and partnership effectiveness, organizational strategy, operating-model transformation, and leadership effectiveness.
  • Advise senior executives and leadership teams on critical organizational choices, including integration strategy, organization design, governance, decision rights, leadership alignment, talent and capability requirements, and cross-functional ways of working.
  • Lead M&A integration efforts across the transaction lifecycle, including integration strategy, pre-close readiness, Day 1 planning, integration governance, cross-functional workstream coordination, organizational integration, and transition to business-as-usual.
  • Support strategic alliances and partnerships by helping clients define governance, roles and decision rights, joint strategy and priorities, operating norms, escalation mechanisms, and approaches for assessing and improving alliance health.
  • Design and lead organizational effectiveness engagements, including organization and operating-model assessments, leadership-team effectiveness work, organization design, governance redesign, capability assessment, and transformation planning.
  • Structure ambiguous business problems and translate them into actionable workplans, identifying the highest-value questions, analyses, decisions, and interventions required to move clients forward.
  • Design and conduct diagnostic work, including executive interviews, surveys, organizational assessments, workshops, and analysis of complex qualitative and quantitative information to identify meaningful patterns and insights.
  • Facilitate high-stakes leadership and cross-functional working sessions, helping teams surface differing perspectives, make decisions, resolve difficult issues, and align around priorities and action plans.
  • Translate strategy into practical execution, developing integration plans, operating models, governance frameworks, decision processes, organizational roadmaps, playbooks, and other tools clients can use after the engagement ends.
  • Lead and develop consulting teams, providing clear direction, coaching team members, maintaining high standards for problem-solving and deliverables, and creating meaningful growth opportunities.
  • Manage engagement economics and delivery, including scope, staffing, timelines, risks, and financial performance across multiple simultaneous engagements.
  • Build trusted client relationships and identify opportunities to expand Vantage's impact within existing accounts and develop new client relationships.
  • Contribute to Vantage's intellectual capital and business development, including proposals, client development, conferences, articles, benchmarking studies, case examples, methodologies, and new offerings.
  • Travel to client locations as required.

Qualifications

    • Strategic alliances, partnerships, or joint ventures
    • Organizational strategy and organization design
    • Operating-model transformation

    • Large-scale organizational change
  • Strong experience in biopharma, biotechnology, healthcare, or life sciences strongly preferred, including familiarity with the cross-functional nature of drug development and commercialization organizations.
  • Demonstrated experience advising C-suite and senior executives on complex organizational and strategic issues.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary consulting teams and managing multiple workstreams simultaneously.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to synthesize complex qualitative and quantitative information into clear implications and recommendations.
  • Strong facilitation skills and experience working with leadership teams to navigate ambiguity, competing priorities, and differing perspectives.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to develop compelling executive-level narratives and presentations.
  • Strong academic credentials and undergraduate degree required; advanced degree such as an MBA, MA, MSc, JD, or equivalent experience is valued.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States without restriction.
