Job Description

The position involves collaborating with a team of software and test engineers to update and migrate legacy software, used for Naval Ship Weapons Direction Systems, into a new hardware environment as part of a naval system mid-life modernization effort. The program for hardware modernization and software migration involves USN work and USN-supported Foreign Military Sales integration efforts.

This position will require working knowledge of Ada, a working knowledge of other languages like C and C++, and a familiarity with the VxWorks Operating System (OS) environment. It also requires a demonstrated strong ability to solve complex computer problems, and a good understanding of the interoperability between various elements of a naval defense system.

The individual shall be a self-starter that will work independently as well as in a team environment, and provide valuable insights and creative and successful engineering strategies.

The candidate will support the rehost of existing computer programs, software update development, problem resolution, software evaluation/analysis, software configuration management, review of software design changes, and will work closely with customers to ensure deliverables meet their expectations and arrive in a timely manner.

The candidate will be required to effectively communicate with diverse sets of external engineers to drive the Weapons Direction System (WDS) rehost and development from existing legacy software updates to transition implementation and system of systems integration analysis. Occasional travel will be required to various facilities to participate in system testing

Required Skills and Education
• B.S. degree in STEM discipline
• 4+ years of programming experience
• Experience with Naval Ship Systems Integration
• Experience/Expertise with ADA and C software programming languages
• Experience with C++ software programming language in stand alone computing environments
• Proficient with VxWorks Operating Systems
• Experience in Real-time embedded software development
• Develop, maintain, and evaluate software by utilizing software development products and programming languages
• Knowledge of software migration and system rehosting
• Excellent cognitive, organizational, documentation, and written/verbal communication skills
• Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment
• Must be able to support Domestic and Foreign travel
• Must be able to obtain and maintain Secret clearance

Preferred Skills and Education
• B.S. degree or higher in Computer Science or Software Engineering
• Experience with STANDARD Missile integration or Naval Ship Weapons Direction Systems
- particularly WDS Mk 14 influenced designs
• Experience with Versa Module Europa (VME) environments
• Experience in Weapon System/Defense software development of complex and high reliability software
• Strong understanding of software development lifecycle and quality assurance methodologies
• Participation in Land-Based Test Site (LBTS) and shipboard test events
• Experience with USN or USN-supported Foreign Military Sales projects
• Active Secret clearance
