Job Description

We are seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to take on the critical role of developing and supporting rate production processes, resolving work stoppages, investigating the root cause of anomalies, conducting capacity analysis, mapping value streams, and designing production cells for continuous flow of product connected to customer demand. A background or knowledge of Lean Fundamentals is strongly preferred.

This position requires an understanding of manufacturing processes and the ability to optimize workflows for enhanced efficiency. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in identifying bottlenecks and implementing solutions that drive productivity. The role will involve designing tools and fixtures that support production operations and improve the safety, ergonomics, and efficiency of value-creating work.

The Operations Strategic Capabilities Unit plays a fundamental role in enabling efficient business and program execution - from strategic capital investments, industrial operations and an efficient supply chain, to state-of-the-art manufacturing and test operations and top-notch facilities management.

What You'll Do:

  • Develop, implement, and improve processes for new and existing products.
  • Work closely with a cross-functional team to resolve work stops, non-conformances, and tooling issues.
  • Create and maintain master process plans. Participate in creating standardized work documentation.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, ergonomics, quality, delivery, and cost.
  • Observe and measure value-creating work, design cell layout and work distribution, and implement and sustain improvements.
  • Collaborate with operators to improve equipment changeover, reliability and uptime.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements, including aerospace quality standards.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.

Working Conditions:
  • Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment.
  • May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
  • May access other facilities in various weather conditions.


Required Skills and Education

  • BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 8 or more years related experience
  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., master's degree and/or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • Experience with process development, documentation, and sustainment.
  • Experience design, prototype, and fabrication of fixturing and tooling to support production.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.
  • Experience with root cause analysis and problem-solving methodologies.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work on the production floor in a hands-on capacity.

A DoW Interim Secret clearance will be required to start work and required to be maintained to continue work. Higher level clearance or access with Polygraph is not required to be eligible for this position. However, the applicant must be willing and eligible for submission, depending on program requirements, after an offer is accepted and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance/access.

Preferred Skills and Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Experience in aerospace, defense, or other high-precision regulated industries.
  • Experience with Radio Frequency (RF) systems.
  • Experience operating in a lean production system and the ability to contribute to the Tactical Solutions Production System.
  • Knowledge of process level, lean manufacturing fundamentals including:
    • Knowledge or experience implementing and sustaining continuous flow production cells.
    • Experience conducting process studies to understand the work.
    • Experience designing work cells for continuous flow and arranging materials and equipment to meet takt time.
    • Connecting production to customer demand and regulating flow.
