Job DescriptionThis position supports BAE Systems as SSP's System Integration contractor and reports to the Interface Management program area, which manages interface requirements between subsystems. This role is responsible for serving as the day-to-day point of contact between the customers, the program area engineers, and external contractor stakeholders. This role will ensure passing of accurate and timely information across organizations, synchronize engineering and programmatic milestones, and accelerate problem resolution to support system development.
To support the U.S. Navy's Strategic Systems Programs (SSP), BAE Systems is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer and Subject Matter Expert (SME) to join our Interface Management team. This position ensures compatibility of the weapon system, the ship, and facilities.
The candidate will provide first line leadership tasked with drafting and modeling product development contract deliverables and programmatic system level support for existing and developmental weapon system configurations. Candidate will define and manage project requirements, scope, cost and schedule. The team primarily develops products in 3D CAD. The SME will be responsible for the task management of their team; ensuring that they are able to support and meet the requested deadlines. The selected candidate will work closely with Drafters, numerous engineering teams, and serve as Lead Mechanical Engineer supporting Product Developments Design Checking Specialists in the Strategic Systems Programs (SSP).
Applicants should have knowledge of ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards, mechanical design principles, and possess the ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally. Candidates should have expertise in 3D modeling, assemblies, drawing detailing, creating draft features, skilled in problem-solving, attention to detail, and communication skills for working within engineering teams.
This position is responsible for Leading Drafters in developing and maintaining design requirements, creating and updating 3D models, drawings, and assemblies based on customer requirements, specifying materials used on models, creating models out of rough sketches, developing standardized models of products, coordinating with other teams to ensure the model is correct, and communicating effectively and professionally.
Required Skills and Education- BS Mechanical Engineering
- Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear requirements, timelines, and deliverables
- Experience reporting to high-level project managers and DOD agencies
- Detailed understanding of engineering drawings
- Experienced with current and former drafting standards
- 10 years designing and drafting mechanical products using 3D CAD
- Ability to work with others in support to meet contract deliverables
- Strong interpersonal skills to interact with diverse work teams
- Juggle multiple projects at once
