Position SummaryWe are seeking a Pointing & Tracking Systems Engineer to design, develop, integrate, and test precision pointing and tracking systems. The engineer will work across controls, estimation, sensing, software, electro-optical and electromechanical systems to achieve accurate and stable pointing and tracking of dynamic targets.
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience developing closed-loop tracking systems and is comfortable taking systems from requirements and modeling through integration, test, and operational deployment.
Key Responsibilities:- Develop and implement pointing, tracking, and stabilization algorithms.
- Design closed-loop control systems for precision pointing mechanisms and platforms.
- Develop target acquisition, tracking, and pointing solutions using sensor measurements.
- Perform system modeling, simulation, analysis, and performance prediction.
- Develop and tune control loops, filters, estimators, and tracking algorithms.
- Integrate sensors, actuators, motion-control hardware, and embedded software systems.
- Analyze pointing accuracy, tracking error, stability, latency, jitter and system dynamics.
- Develop test plans and procedures and support hardware-in-the-loop, laboratory, and field testing.
Required Skills and Education- B.S. degree in a STEM field in addition to 15+ years of experience with pointing, tracking, guidance, navigation, controls, gimbals, stabilized platforms or related systems.
- Strong understanding of control-systems fundamentals, including feedback control, stability, frequency response and dynamic modeling.
- Experience leading a team of systems or EO/IR engineers.
- Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink, Python, or comparable tools.
- Experience analyzing real-world sensors and actuator data.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex multidisciplinary systems.
- Possess an active Secret security clearance (with ability to possess a Top-Secret clearance in the future)
Preferred Skills and Education- Experience with gimbaled or stabilized electro-optical systems.
- Experience with Kalman filtering, inertial navigation, target tracking or multi-sensor fusion.
- Familiarity with coordinate transformations, attitude representations, and kinematics.
- Experience with hardware-in-the-loop or real-time simulation.
- Experience taking a pointing/tracking system through integration and environmental or field testing.
- CAM/EV integrated product team lead experience.
- Strong leadership skills and experience directing and mentoring engineers on complex programs.
- Expert in effectively documenting, communicating, leading and working with a team on designs, results, reports, and presentations.
- Experience performing systems engineering activities across the development cycle (analysis/decomposition/derivation/allocation of requirements, system modeling & simulation, system design & development, system integration & test)
- Experience developing viable concept solutions, identifying and tracking technical risks, and leading technical teams
- Model based systems engineering experience with tools such as Magic Draw.
- Familiarity or experience with Agile Systems Engineering
- Active Top Secret (TS) or TS/SCI security clearance
Success in This Role: Within a short period of time, the successful candidate will be expected to:
- Understand the system architecture, pointing/tracking requirements, and key performance drivers.
- Own significant portions of the pointing and tracking design.
- Develop and validate models and algorithms against test data.
- Improve pointing and tracking performance through analysis and closed-loop tuning.
- Lead integration and troubleshooting of assigned subsystems.
- Establish repeatable test and verification methods for system performance.
