This technical role is for an engineer who will work within the Command and Data Handling subsystem team to support the definition of requirements, development of the architecture, implementation of the design, and verification of the subsystem for a spacecraft.
What You'll Do: - Serve as the Command and Data Handling (C&DH) subsystem lead on Civil Space and National Defense bus programs, responsible for delivering a C&DH subsystem that meets program technical, cost and schedule requirements.
- Serve as spacecraft networking lead, responsible for internal space vehicle networking and as part of a constellation of satellites.
- Work daily with the larger C&DH team on technical definition, implementation, and verification.
- Support the definition and maintenance of the subsystem architecture and interfaces.
- Generate verification and validation plans, and work with Integration and Test team to ensure the subsystem meets requirements.
- Produce technical writing (procedural definitions, specifications, interfaces, analysis support and description documents).
- Prepare and give presentations to peers, customers, and management.
- Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
- Perform other duties as necessary.
On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working
on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.
Working Conditions: - Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment.
- May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
- May access other facilities in various weather conditions.
Required Skills and Education- BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 8 or more years related experience.
- Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
- 3 or more years of experience in electronics or avionics subsystem design or test, or computer networking.
- An understanding of requirements definition, decomposition, and flow-down, circuit design, interface definition, hardware specifications, interface control, analyses, and verification.
- Experience developing and delivering space qualified hardware. A solid hardware background is required.
- Intellectual curiosity combined with a solid desire to learn.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Effective in multidisciplinary teamwork environment.

A security clearance or access with Polygraph is not required to be eligible for this position. However, the applicant must be willing and eligible for submission, depending on program requirements, after an offer is accepted and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance/access.
Preferred Skills and Education- Network protocols (TCP, UDP, etc).
- Network topologies, architectures, and design principles.
- Spacecraft communication protocols (CCSDS).
- Serial interfaces (SpaceWire, RS-422, UART, etc).
- Certifications (CCNA, CCNP).
- Network security fundamentals (authentication, encryption, etc).
