Job Description

BAE Systems is seeking an outstanding Environmental Engineer for an opportunity to support the U.S. Air Force's (USAF) development and acquisition of the next generation Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) - the Sentinel.

The Environmental Engineer will support the Sentinel development within the Systems Engineering and Integration Division by ensuring program compliance with applicable Federal, State, Local, Department of Defense (DoD), and USAF environmental regulations. Additionally, the successful engineer will help guide the development of ICBM-unique hardware for the Sentinel weapon system through preparing and maintaining National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Programmatic Environmental Safety and Health Evaluation (PESHE), and Demilitarization and Disposal Plan documentation, Special Studies & Analyses, and briefing materials (briefings, point papers, and white papers).

The specific responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
  • Manage and maintain the Sentinel Environmental Health & Safety Plan, Pollution Prevention Program, Operating Instructions for Environmental Issues, and the Hazardous Materials Management Program Plan.
  • Conduct hazardous materials support and technical reviews of new materials, processes, and technologies in accordance with operating procedures for Hazardous Materials, Hazard Assessment Test Reports, Chemical Safety Program Plans, Chemical Accident or Incident Reports, and Threat Hazard Assessments.
  • Provide technical support for environmental compliance by reviewing and reporting on various types of technical memoranda and data, for example, Sentinel Technical Orders, drawings, specifications, change recommendations, and Engineering Technical Analysis Requests.
  • Assist the Environmental and Corrosion Engineering Team to ensure performance of assignments is conducted as required by contractual agreements, through interpreting data and preparing findings and recommendations for reports, and by reviewing and coordinating work with team members.
  • Attend technical reviews, conferences, and meetings, as required, to represent assigned activity and report on environmental requirements. Develop working group meeting agendas, prepare and consolidate briefing materials, provide meeting minutes, and draft answers to action items assigned by other agencies or organizations.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the Environmental and Corrosion Engineering Team Lead
As a BAE team member, you are part of an Integrated Support Contract, meaning, that BAE assists and advises the USAF with technical expertise to manage the prime contractor in developing the weapon system. This position will entail reviewing prime contractor technical documentation, specifications, and design drawings, participation in technical reviews, and providing sound advice/suggestions within this field to the Government customer. As part of the Systems Engineering and Integration Team, the job coordinates environmental requirements with other specialty engineering disciplines to achieve total system integration.

Required Skills and Education

  • BS/MS degree in Environmental Engineering, Bio-environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Material Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, Environmental Science, Chemistry, or Physics
  • At least 3 years of progressive responsibility in providing technical leadership related to Environmental Compliance/Environmental Safety and Occupational Health (2 years with MS degree)
  • Must be able to work independently, demonstrate strong initiative, and organize and direct daily tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Strong communications skills (oral and written).
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Eligible candidates must be able to acquire the requisite security clearance within a reasonable amount of time upon hire.
