Full Job Description
Job Description

The Electrical & Electronic Solutions (EES) team is seeking a collaborative, action-oriented Senior Test Engineer to be a contributor and leader within a group of motivated problem solvers. This position has responsibility for leading electrical test engineering activities associated with the development, qualification, and verification of electronic systems at the board and box levels through scripted automated testing.

The Engineering, Science and Analysis (ESA) Strategic Capabilities Unit comprises the technical talent and organizational leadership that enables the successful delivery of high-impact discriminating technologies for our customers' missions. Our collaborative, cross-functional teams are committed to innovation, integrity, continual learning and strong execution.

What You'll Do:

  • Spearhead the qualification and validation efforts for electronic assemblies at the board and box levels, ensuring products meet rigorous performance, reliability, and regulatory standards.
  • Lead board/box-level electronics test and troubleshooting, including resolution of hardware anomalies, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Design and implement comprehensive special test equipment, test fixtures, test plans, and test procedures for prototype, qualification, and acceptance testing of electronic assemblies.
  • Drive test strategy development and execution throughout the complete lifecycle of electronics development: requirements definition, architectural design, detailed design and analysis, manufacturing, test, integration, and post-delivery support.
  • Author and maintain test engineering documentation, including test plans, test procedures, test logs, test records, and comprehensive test summary reports in accordance with program requirements.
  • Develop scripts (python or ruby) to automate the execution of test through custom/COTS hardware and software.
  • Provide technical oversight and mentorship to technicians and engineers, coordinating activities across multidisciplinary teams to predict and meet schedules and resolve technical disconnects.
  • Support program milestones such as preliminary design reviews (PDR), critical design reviews (CDR), and customer acceptance reviews through clear presentation of test results and technical issues.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.

Working Conditions:
  • Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment.
  • May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
  • May access other facilities in various weather conditions.

Required Skills and Education

  • BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 4 or more years related experience.
  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • Testing, troubleshooting, and anomaly resolution of electronic circuits and a demonstrated ability to respond to anomalies found during test and to make recommendations for corrective actions.
  • 3 years of experience in the complete lifecycle of electronics development: requirements definition, architectural design, detailed design and analysis, manufacturing, test, integration, and post-delivery support.
  • Proficient in scripting languages like Python or Ruby
  • Proven expertise in qualification testing of electronic systems for aerospace or defense applications operating in harsh or mission-critical environments.
  • Solid understanding of hardware/software/firmware integration and verification techniques at the board and box level.
  • Ability to coordinate activities of a small team, predict and meet schedules, resolve technical disconnects, and provide leadership on test engineering efforts.
  • Communication skills are essential, including the ability to understand the customer's needs and provide clear communication of proposed solutions to both management and the customer.
  • Planning and organization skills with attention to detail in maintaining test documentation and engineering records.
