Job Description

We're seeking a self-motivated systems engineer to join our Systems Operations & Sustainment team. Our multi-disciplinary teams prepare for launch, initialization, and early operations of satellites. We are a key part of the launch and commissioning team and we support on orbit test, factory reach-back, operations, and maintenance of satellites through their mission life.

The Engineering, Science and Analysis (ESA) Strategic Capabilities Unit comprises the technical talent and organizational leadership that enables the successful delivery of high-impact discriminating technologies for our customers' missions. Our collaborative, cross-functional teams are committed to innovation, integrity, continual learning and strong execution.

What You'll Do:
  • Develop, test, and validate mission operations products, timelines, and tools. This may include command execution scripts, alarm limit management, mission system constraints, operator procedures, or operator training material.
  • Contribute to the planning and successful execution of rehearsals, test events, launch, commissioning, and early operations; track technical progress associated with the effort.
  • Participate in on-orbit operations, assess satellite and ground system state of health, and assist with
  • anomaly support.
  • Support integration and test of new capabilities and/or product releases for the satellite or ground system
  • Collaborate with and coordinate subject matter experts to support events - this may include tasks such as staffing plans, working group coordination, account and logistics support, and team briefings & training.
  • Support verification and validation of mission operations requirements, products, timelines, and tools through unit, system, and enterprise tests.
  • Prepare and present technical content to peers, management, and customers.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.

Working Conditions:
  • Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment.
  • May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
  • May access other facilities in various weather conditions.


Required Skills and Education

  • BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required.
  • Each higher-level related degree, i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of related experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • Experience in mission operations, including one or more of the following areas:
    • Operations readiness activities, rehearsals, and launch support activities.
    • Spacecraft commissioning.
    • Spacecraft, payload, or subsystem design.
    • Mission management, command and control.
    • Operations product development such as command execution scripts, alarm limits, mission system constraints, operator procedures, and/or operator training material.
    • Ground systems.
  • Familiarity with systems engineering processes, such as requirements development, requirement allocation, change management, verification and validation.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to interface with technicians, peers, senior-level engineers, business development, management.
  • Ability to contribute to the success of small teams through excellent teamwork.

A security clearance or access with Polygraph is not required to be eligible for this position. However, the applicant must be willing and eligible for submission, depending on program requirements, after an offer is accepted and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance/access.

Preferred Skills and Education

  • Experience in related disciplines such as software engineering, hardware engineering, integration, test engineering, quality engineering, configuration/data management.
  • Experience using simulators, test benches, or FlatSats.
  • Knowledge of cloud development environments.
  • Knowledge of requirements management tool such as DOORS.
  • Knowledge of Atlassian Tools such as Confluence and Jira.
