Quality Engineer II (Warranty Management)

SUMMARY

The BESS Quality Engineer II (Warranty Management) is responsible for leading the end-to-end administration of warranty claims across utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects. This role serves as the primary point of contact for customers, operations teams, subcontractors, and suppliers throughout the warranty period, ensuring that all warranty requests are properly evaluated, prioritized, assigned, and resolved in a timely manner. The Warranty Manager drives accountability across stakeholders and maintains oversight of the warranty portfolio to ensure claims are closed efficiently while protecting customer relationships and controlling warranty costs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the intake, triage, and tracking of all BESS warranty claims from initial notification through final closeout.
  • Ensure warranty requests contain the required documentation, troubleshooting records, photos, and supporting information necessary for evaluation and disposition.
  • Review incoming claims for warranty eligibility and coordinate with project teams, suppliers, OEMs, subcontractors, and field operations to determine corrective actions.
  • Assign resources and drive execution of repair, replacement, or remediation activities.
  • Maintain ownership of claim status, ensuring timely follow-up, escalation, and resolution of open items.
  • Lead communication with customers and O&M teams, providing regular updates on claim progress, corrective actions, and expected closure dates.
  • Monitor warranty response times, aging claims, and performance metrics to ensure service level expectations are achieved.
  • Maintain accurate records within warranty management systems and develop reporting on claim volume, status, root causes, recurring issues, and budgets.
  • Identify trends, serial defects, and systemic equipment issues and coordinate corrective action plans with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Partner with project teams during project closeout and warranty handoff activities to ensure complete turnover of documentation, warranties, supplier contacts, and operational requirements.
  • Verify completion of corrective actions and obtain customer or O&M confirmation prior to formally closing warranty events.
  • Continuously improve warranty processes, workflows, and reporting to enhance customer experience and reduce claim cycle times.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction, Civil, or Architectural Engineering, related field, or equivalent experience


  • Minimum of two years' experience within the design, engineering, construction, or other related industries


  • Possess good mechanical aptitude and develop knowledge in use of large cranes, mechanical systems, and utility based medium and high voltage electrical systems


  • Strong understanding of optical fiber installation, standards and best practices for inside plant and outside plant


  • Understanding of the design-bid-build process.


  • Self-starter, independent worker, computer literate


  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills


  • Strong teamwork orientation


  • Basic knowledge of construction processes, systems, and project management


  • Current driver's license


  • Openness to travel

**The base pay range for this role is $89,500 MIN - $120,800 MAX. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL - 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR - 10%, Washington, D.C. - 12.5%).

Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity. This position is eligible for Mortenson's incentive plan.
