The PositionThe City of Oakland's Human Resources Department is seeking an Employee Fleet & Safety Coordinator who is passionate about creating safer workplaces, supporting employees, and improving organizational operations. As an Employee Fleet & Safety Coordinator, you will collaborate with departments throughout the City to address complex safety challenges, provide technical guidance, and develop solutions that enhance employee well-being and operational effectiveness. You will play a key role in supporting fleet safety initiatives, managing compliance efforts, analyzing risk, and implementing best practices that protect employees and the public.

What you typically will be responsible for:- Developing, implementing, and monitoring employee safety and fleet compliance programs to support safe and efficient operations.
- Ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including transportation, workplace safety, and environmental requirements.
- Conducting audits, inspections, and reviews to identify risks, track compliance, and recommend corrective actions.
- Investigating vehicle incidents, workplace safety concerns, and operational issues to identify root causes and improve safety practices.
- Providing guidance, training, and technical support to employees and departments on fleet safety policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Maintaining compliance records, preparing reports, and analyzing data to recommend improvements that enhance fleet performance and reduce risk.

Minimum Requirements for ApplicationThis recruitment will produce two eligible lists. The restricted list will be for full-time, permanent part-time, or part-time City and Port of Oakland employees who maintain employment for the duration of the recruitment and pass all stages of the recruitment process. The open list will be for all other applicants who pass all stages of the recruitment process.Any combination of education and experience that is equivalent to the following minimum qualifications may be acceptable.
Education:Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business or public administration, occupational health, occupational safety, or a related field.
Experience:Four years of professional experience in occupational safety and health. Demonstrated, active participation in safety-related trade organizations is highly desirable.
License or CertificateIncumbent is this position is expected to operate automotive vehicles in the performance of assigned duties. Due to assignments and hours worked, public transportation may not be an efficient method for traveling to required locations. Individuals appointed will be required to maintain a valid California Driver's License while employed.
Desirable QualificationsPossession of a Certified Safety Professional or Certified Industrial Hygienist designation is desirable
