Full Job Description
The MD Anderson Cancer Center Business Continuity program's main focus is to reduce risk, improve resilience and support operational areas with the continuous delivery of mission-critical services. Business Continuity Management is an organization's ability to maintain essential functions during an operational disruption or emergency event. It is a proactive process that identifies potential threats to the organization and analyzes the impact to operations.

The Emergency Management & Business Continuity Planner is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining programs that ensure organizational preparedness, response, recovery, and continuity in the event of emergencies or disruptions. This role focuses on minimizing risk, maintaining critical operations, and safeguarding employees, assets, and reputation.

Salary range: $88,000.00 - $110,000.00 - $132,000.00

Key Responsibilities

Emergency Management
  • Develop, update, and maintain Emergency Operations Plans (EOPs)
  • Coordinate emergency preparedness activities across departments
  • Conduct risk assessments and hazard vulnerability analyses
  • Lead emergency response planning, including evacuation, shelter-in-place, and crisis communication procedures
  • Coordinate and participate in drills, exercises, and simulations
  • Serve as a key point of contact during emergencies or crisis events
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal emergency management regulations

Business Continuity Planning
  • Develop and maintain Business Continuity Plans (BCPs) for critical functions
  • Conduct Business Impact Analyses (BIA) to identify essential services and recovery priorities
  • Define recovery time objectives (RTOs) and recovery point objectives (RPOs)
  • Collaborate with department leaders to align continuity strategies
  • Monitor and improve continuity plans based on testing outcomes and real-world incidents

Collaboration & Coordination
  • Partner with cross-functional teams (IT, Facilities, HR, Operations, etc.) to align preparedness and continuity plans
  • Facilitate communication between departments during planning and response phases
  • Support leadership in crisis decision-making processes
  • Coordinate with external agencies, responders, and stakeholders

Training & Awareness
  • Develop and deliver training programs related to emergency preparedness and business continuity
  • Promote organizational awareness and readiness culture
  • Provide guidance to departments on plan development and execution

Program Management & Compliance
  • Maintain documentation, policies, and procedures related to emergency management and business continuity
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, standards (e.g., FEMA, OSHA, ISO 22301), and organizational policies
  • Track program performance and recommend improvements
  • Prepare reports and briefings for leadership


EDUCATION
  • Required: Bachelor's Degree Industrial Engineering, Management Engineering, Education, Organizational Development, Emergency Planning, Business Continuity or related field.
  • Preferred: Master's Degree Engineering, Applied or Basic Sciences, Environmental Science, Emergency Management or related field.
WORK EXPERIENCE
  • Required: 2 years Emergency management or business continuity experience.
  • Preferred: 2 years Emergency management or business continuity experience in a healthcare environment.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
  • Preferred: TDL - Texas Drivers License Valid and current Texas driver's license with a minimum of three year's history of verifiable driving history. With less than three years of driving history, but with a minimum of one year of driving history, a waiver may be requested.. Upon Hire
  • Preferred: CHEP - Certified Healthcare Emergency Professionals Board of Certified Hazardous Control (BCHC). Upon Hire
  • Preferred: CEM - Certified Emergency Manager International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM). Upon Hire
  • Preferred: Certified Emergency Management Specialist (CEMS) International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM). Upon Hire
  • Preferred: Certified Business Continuity Planner FEMA or other recognized Business Continuity certification organization. Upon Hire
  • Preferred: Master Business Continuity Professional (MBCP) by FEMA or other recognized Business Continuity certification organization. Upon Hire
  • Preferred: Certified Healthcare Provider Continuity Planner (CHPCP) by the Disaster Recovery Institute International (DRII). Upon Hire
