Job Description

The Embryologist performs assisted reproduction technology (ART) laboratory techniques for reproductive health procedures. Independently performs key projects and procedures within the laboratory.

This position will be expected to successfully, and independently, perform some of the following procedures in accordance with standard operating procedures and quality control processes: oocyte retrieval, insemination, pronuclear assessment, embryo culture, gamete genetic diagnosis (PGD), and semen analysis.

The Embryologist will also evaluate clinical specimens, prepares samples, selects specimens for transfer, oversee development of specimens assessing growth and quality. Participation in and support for research projects conducted by the faculty members in the division is also expected.

Due to the nature of work, flexibility in schedule is a requirement.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in life science (Biology or closely related area) and minimum 5-8 years of reproductive lab experience (or clinical lab work)
  • Proficiency of lab skills and policies specific to IVF procedures
  • Thorough knowledge of data management and documentation methods used in Embryology
  • Advanced knowledge of quality assurance, quality control and process improvements
  • Proven ability to apply knowledge and skills to provide high quality patient care and research
  • Superior eye-hand coordination
  • Proficient in specimen preparation and transfer ensuring specimen quantity, quality and consistency
  • Advanced organizational skills and acute attention to detail. Ability to follow strict protocols without deviation
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients and staff. Empathetic and aware of impact on patients, including potential liability resulting from mishandling of specimens. Ability to explain complex concepts in clear and concise manner
  • Advanced interpersonal skills to work collaboratively and support the work of others
  • Ability prioritize personal and team tasks and see projects through from inception to completion
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work collaboratively and support the work of others


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Masters in applicable field or equivalent years of experience
  • Current certification in Embryology and/or Andrology by the American Board of Bioanalysts
