Full Job Description
Embedded Electrical Engineer

Scarborough, Ontario, Canada | Full-time, permanent | Hybrid - primarily in-office, with possible remote working days

"You know how to capture a good idea into a high-level concept and take it all the way from PCB schematic to field-proven electronic hardware, debug the fault nobody else can find, and ship electronic systems you can stand behind. Ready to do that for a company whose technology helps keep critical energy infrastructure safe?"

Your role

The Embedded Electrical Engineer supports the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of robotic inspection systems. This role suits a versatile engineer who enjoys a broad range of technical challenges, from early concept and product design through testing, deployment, and support of fielded systems.

Working in a multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to both new product development and the continued evolution of commercial inspection platforms combining electronics design, PCB development, electrical system design, testing, troubleshooting, and engineering documentation.

What You Will Do
  • Develop electrical concepts, system architectures, and design solutions for both new products and existing commercial platforms
  • Create electrical schematics, PCB layouts, wiring diagrams, cable assemblies, and supporting documentation
  • Support electronics development activities using Altium Designer and Saturn PCB Design
  • Integrate, debug and tune hardware systems, including brushless DC motor drivers, power control systems and communication protocols such as SPI, I2C, UART, CAN
  • Participate in design reviews, technical feasibility assessments, and DFMEA activities
  • Develop and execute test plans, validation activities, and engineering evaluations
  • Troubleshoot electrical and system-level issues and support root-cause investigations
  • Support existing commercial systems through design improvements and lifecycle management activities
  • Collaborate with mechanical, software, systems, manufacturing, and field operations teams
  • Support prototype builds, product integration, and system verification activities
  • Assist with engineering change management and product releases
  • Provide technical support to manufacturing and field operations when required
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering standards, processes, and documentation

What you bring

Must-haves
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related discipline
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in electrical engineering or electrical design roles involving embedded systems, electronics, robotics, or similar technical systems
  • Ability to develop electrical concepts and systems architectures
  • Proficiency in creating electrical schematics, PCB layouts
  • Strong troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and problem-solving skills
  • Hands-on involvement in prototype builds, testing, and product integration activities
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills

Nice-to-haves
  • Proficiency with Altium Designer
  • Experience with cable assembly design and wiring documentation practices
  • Background in robotics, inspection technology or comparable electromechanical product development
  • Exposure to BLDC motor control, battery-powered products, battery charging circuits, and battery management systems (BMS)
  • Familiarity with component selection, lifecycle management, and supply chain considerations

Growth & What we invest in you

Robotic inspection tools are designed, built, assembled and tested in this building, so you see your electronics through manufacturing and into the field exposure you will not get in a pure design house.

What we offer
  • A technical, professional, and challenging environment where engineers own their designs end to end
  • Competitive wages and a bonus program based on company and individual performance
  • An engaging company culture that encourages teamwork and recognizes both team and individual achievements
  • Extended healthcare benefits coverage (including dental and vision), life insurance, and AD&D insurance
  • Flexible working hours and paid time off
