SUMMARY: The Elementary Principal leads, directs, and administers all school operations and activities. The Principal focuses on increased student achievement and adult performance, implementing systems and programs for improving teaching and learning.
QUALIFICATIONS:Professional:
- Elementary experience as both a teacher and administrator preferred.
- Hold an appropriate Administrative license from Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission.
- Strong curriculum background in elementary education.
- Commitment to educational equity, diversity and inclusion.
- Knowledgeable about current educational trends.
- Knowledge of Oregon laws and regulations.
- Working knowledge of Special Education, 504 and Second Language requirements.
- Oversees and implements the school budget, approving new programs and expenditures as appropriate.
- Working knowledge of student behavior systems, the ability to use data to inform decision-making and ensuring all staff are knowledgeable of the expectations to allow all staff to meet the academic and social emotional needs of a diverse student body.
- Ability to work with a diverse group of stakeholders.
- Interacts with various stakeholders to foster a positive relationship between the school and community including PTO, community organizations, and leaders.
- Collaborates with other principals and educators throughout the district to align PK-12 practices.
- Desire to seek continuous improvement and demonstrate a willingness to reflect on leadership behaviors and practice, and apply feedback to continuously improve.
Responsibilities:
- Plan, organize, administer, manage and coordinate all education programs of an elementary school.
- Assumes responsibility for the security and safety of the school and all school property to ensure a safe learning environment. Adheres to the District's comprehensive safety and security plan and implements effective instructional programs and practices to address current safety and well-being.
- Supervises all professional, paraprofessional, clerical, custodial and other personnel.
- With an equity lens, promotes and cultivates a school climate that values student voice and designs authentic student learning experiences.
- Serves as an instructional leader for the school and drives teaching and learning designed to meet elementary school student needs in order to create continuous improvement and equitable academic and social-emotional outcomes for all students.
- Builds a professional culture of trust, openness and collaboration, engaging teachers in sharing information, analyzing outcomes and planning improvement.
- Aligns and supports the District's Strategic Plan with school based initiatives.
- Uses the "St. Helens School District Student and Family Handbook" guidelines for the administration of student discipline.
- Thoroughly reviews the negotiated agreements and administers the negotiated agreements in the building. Any questions of interpretation shall be immediately called to the attention of the office of Human Resources.
- Follows the directives, interpretations, rules and procedure applicable to the negotiated agreements as established by the Superintendent or the School Board.
- Responsible for all district funds received and disbursed in the school. The principal shall exactly follow the procedure and directives concerning these funds issued by the Business Manager and/or the Superintendent. Procedures and directives shall be in writing and signed by the official of the general administrative office, issuing the same.
- Knowledge of physical plant and maintenance needs, reports to custodial maintenance as needs arise.
- Cooperates with community groups and organizations in making school facilities available in accordance with board policy, procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Adheres to District and Board policies.
- Participates with the Superintendent in recruitment and selection of personnel for the school. Assumes responsibility for recommending staff assignments in the school.
- Participates in the development of the annual budget by submitting budget requests and supporting data as requested.
- Effectively communicates with all stakeholders, keeping them informed of the school's goals, objectives, student achievement, programs, and activities through exemplary written and oral communication.
SALARY: As agreed upon with the school board.
EVALUATION: In accordance with district policy.
