Reports to: The Washington 3-5 Principal
Evaluation:: Annually by the School Principal
Salary Range: $118,000 - $122,000 / annually This position qualifies for town benefits, including Health Insurance
General Responsibilities: Provide and maintain effective communication, promote a sense of belonging for students and staff, plan and facilitate professional learning, assist in the management and operations of the school. The Assistant Principal for Washington 3-5 School will exercise a high degree of initiative and professional judgment in carrying out the policies and procedures adopted by the Franklin School Committee, the Office of Student Services, the Office of Teaching and Learning, and Washington 3-5 School. Qualifications: - Valid Massachusetts Principal/Assistant Principal K-6 Initial DESE license
- Previous supervisory/leadership experience preferred
- Master's Degree in Education preferred
- Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Teacher or Administrator Endorsement
- At least three years of teaching experience required
Performance Responsibilities: Instructional Leadership - Assists in the development, revision, and evaluation of the curriculum
- Coordinates aspects of MCAS administration, including scheduling, accommodations, and test security
- Encourages professional study by members of the staff
- Orients newly assigned staff members and assists in their development, as appropriate
- Assists in the in-service orientation and training of teachers, with special responsibility for staff administrative procedures and instructions
- Visits classrooms, observes and evaluates and counsels all staff members regarding their individual and group performance
- Acts as consultant, resource, and/or mentor to faculty in areas of responsibility
- Keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals and other publications, and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field
Management and Operations - Assists in planning, organizing, and directing the implementation of all school activities
- As required, prepares various statistical and other reports relating to such matters as attendance, enrollment figures, and special reports required by the School Administration
- Keeps supervisor informed of events and activities of an unusual nature as well as routine matters related to the supervisor's accountability
- Assists with scheduling classes within established guidelines to meet student needs
- Establishes guides for proper student conduct and maintaining student discipline
- Oversees Section 504 plans and ensures compliance with state and federal requirements
- Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary, according to due process rights of students
- Maintains and controls the various funds generated by student activities
- Supervises the maintenance of accurate records on the progress and attendance of students
- Assumes responsibility for the safety and administration of the school plant
- Supervises fire drills, drills, and an emergency preparedness program
- Asserts leadership in times of civil disobedience in school in accordance with established School Board policy
- Provides for adequate inventories of school property and for the security and accountability for that property
- Other related duties as assigned by the Principal or their designee
Family and Community Engagement - Builds and maintains active relationships with students and parents
- Makes arrangements for special conferences between parents and teachers
- Communicates regularly with families about student academic progress, behavior, and school programs.
- Ensures timely, clear, and accessible communication in multiple formats.
- Responds to parent/guardian concerns and coordinates resolution of issues in a timely and respectful manner.
- Promotes shared responsibility between home and school for student learning.
Professional Culture - Assumes responsibility for his or her own professional growth and development through membership and participation in the affairs of professional organizations; attendance at regional, state, and national meetings; and enrollment in advanced courses
- Encourages professional study by members of the staff
- Assists in the recruiting, screening, hiring, training, assigning, and evaluating of the school's professional staff
- Serves as a member of such committees and attends such meetings as directed by the Principal
