JOB SUMMARY

Traffic Signal Installation & Field Programs is responsible for Traffic Signal assembly, installation, modification and maintenance, Traffic Control Room management of data and video equipment and data communications, Signal Timing engineering, Camera assembly, installation, modification and maintenance, and Re-lamping management.

You are responsible for the assembly, installation, testing and maintenance of Traffic Control, Communications, Video and related equipment.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of 3 year college diploma in Electronic Technology

Minimum of 4 years of experience in a field relevant to the skill-set

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES

Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) with OACETT
Must obtain International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Traffic Signal Field Technician Level II certification within the timeframe determined by the employer
Valid Ontario unrestricted DZ class driver's licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated
Must complete all required on-the-job training/certifications (e.g. WHMIS, fall arrest, confined space entry, etc.) within the timeframe determined by the employer.

KNOWLEDGE

  • Microprocessors, their application and use in both process control and embedded applications
  • Personal computer software for office applications, communications and testing
  • Programming languages, such as C++, at a level adequate for debugging and basic I/O routines
  • Process control technologies, application and use
  • Communication techniques and technologies, and their application and implementation
  • Traffic control methods and traffic engineering concepts, i.e. progression, phasing, levels of service, interval timing
  • Fibre-optic analog and digital data transmission, theory and application
  • CCTV (surveillance video) transmission methods, PTZ remote control of cameras, theory and application
  • Fundamentals of electrical transmission, distribution and circuit protection
  • Electrical principals and the problems involved in A.C./logic interfaces
  • Diagnostic methods, tools and technologies and their use in the electronic traffic controller environment
  • Working knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation and general knowledge of corporate/departmental policies/procedures related to health and safety
  • UPS systems and Solar technologies
  • WHMIS
  • Ontario Highway Traffic Act Book 7
  • Lockout and Tagout procedures

  • You may initially be paid 95% of your starting rate of pay, in accordance with the collective agreement.
  • Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements.
