Job Summary:

The Electronic Components Senior Engineer develops, improves, and troubleshoots electrical hardware used in an array of engine and machine systems.  This generally includes the development of product requirements, electronic component selection, schematic/layout development, and component verification and validation.  Some or all these activities may be performed in partnership with a supplier including the manufacturing plan and process development. This position performs analysis work, identifies design problems, and resolves them.

To develop electrical components effectively, this position must work closely with Engine and Machine System/Subsystem team members to understand the application requirements and performance needs.  Incumbents may be expected to bear significant responsibility for completion of a project with major focus on delivery.

What You Will Do:

  • Conception and the application of practical product design expertise to problem solving by applying complex technical principles. Prepare concepts, designs, and feasibility studies.

  • Draft and execute development plans in concert with the timing needs of product groups

  • Within the scope of NPI workflow ensure that all of CAT ICS’ L2/L1 NPI and APQP process elements are completed

  • Act as development team lead, interacting with system teams, plant locations, suppliers and purchasing to ensure development commitments are met

  • Plan and coordinate product testing in concert with system needs.

  • Coordinate supplier evaluations, production readiness reviews and facilitate other required supplier development activities

  • Advanced troubleshooting and analysis skills are needed to resolve complex development and field issues and to improve overall performance and cost.

  • Keeping up with industry trends and new technology breakthroughs is essential and requires continuous learning through self/internet study.

What You Will Have:
Effective Communications: The Sr. Electronic Components Engineer is expected to provide technical leadership and potentially training new staff members.  Good communication is expected for technical status updates, component reviews, and when working closely with other internal and external teams in multiple geographic locations and organizations.

Technical Excellence: Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.

Project Management: Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives.

Electronics Engineering - HTH: Knowledge of electronics engineering; ability to design, test and manufacture electronic circuits, components and devices.

Reliability Management - HTH: Knowledge of reliability management; ability to utilize various tools, techniques, methodologies and metrics to meet and manage hardware product performance and reliability objectives.

Mechanical Engineering - MFG: Knowledge of mechanical engineering processes, techniques and methods; ability to design and implement machines and other mechanical devices that safely realize a desired objective or invention.

Supplier Management - MFG: Knowledge of processes and methods to effectively manage business relationships and transactions with suppliers of raw materials or product components; ability to apply related knowledge, experience and skills into real practice.

Top Candidates Will Also Have:

  • Incumbents must have demonstrated excellent analytical skills and the ability to perform complex assignments.  Requires strong technical leadership skills.  Must have strong problem-solving skills and analytical skills and the ability to communicate technical information effectively.

  • A bachelor’s degree (prefer a master’s degree) in an accredited Engineering curriculum (Electrical or Mechanical) and commensurate product development and project leadership experience.

Additional Information:

  • This position may require less than 10% travel.

Summary Pay Range:

$112,710.00 - $169,060.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
