Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed failure analysis on field returns using structured root-cause methods (5-Why, Ishikawa, fault tree).
  • Document findings clearly and rigorously for engineering review and customer evaluations.
  • Collaborate with the Customer Quality Manager to translate technical findings into language suitable for customers.
  • Support RMA disposition decisions through technical analysis and root-cause determination of returned units.
  • Work with Design/Product Engineering to address design-related failure modes and enhancement efforts.
  • Identify failure trends to contribute to CAR/CAPA and reliability improvement processes.
  • Maintain and calibrate failure analysis lab equipment and tools.

Full Job Description
This role performs detailed technical failure analysis on returned and in-process product, driving investigations to root cause and providing the technical foundation behind customer communications, RMA disposition, and corrective action.

This position collaborates with cross-functional teams including Customer Quality Manager, Design/Product Engineering, and Supplier Quality.

Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed failure analysis on field returns using structured root-cause methods (5-Why, Ishikawa, fault tree).
  • Document findings in clear, technically rigorous reports for engineering review and customer-facing evaluation.
  • Partner with the Customer Quality Manager to translate technical findings into customer-appropriate language.
  • Support RMA disposition decisions with technical analysis and root-cause determination on returned units.
  • Collaborate with Design/Product Engineering on design-related failure modes and improvement efforts.
  • Identify trends across failures and feed findings into the CAR/CAPA and reliability improvement process.
  • Maintain and calibrate failure analysis lab equipment, tools, and test fixtures.
  • Support supplier-related failure investigations with Supplier Quality when root cause traces to incoming material.
  • Maintain organized records of failed units, analysis data, and disposition for traceability and audit readiness.


Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or related field.) Electrical or Electromechanical Engineering Preferred, given the electronics-focused failure analysis this role performs
  • 3+ years' preferred experience with Electronics Design or Manufacturing, given this role's failure analysis work is primarily on electronic components and assemblies.

Travel Requirements and Work Environment

  • Less than 10% travel required, could include international travel

  • Employees may be exposed to moderate noise levels and processes that utilize solder, potting material, conformal coating, and cleaning agents.

  • Work areas include machines with sharp moving parts and hot surfaces.

  • Employees are required to wear safety glasses, safety shoes, ESD smocks, or other necessary PPE while in production areas.
