Job Description

Our Industrial Business Unit is a strong design-builder that delivers water, facilities and environmental projects to address client challenges in the most promising markets.

In this role, you'll lead the design and delivery of complex substation projects that ensure power systems are reliable, safe, and efficient. You'll have the opportunity to drive innovation in protection and control systems, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate directly with clients and stakeholders on high-profile energy projects.
  • You'll provide oversight, leadership, and expert technical guidance on designs like electric master system plans, power system and protection models, facility power systems, and renewable energy systems-all at moderate to high complexity levels to meet client needs.
  • Ensure that firm policies and practices are followed on all designs.
  • Performs site reviews and studies, as needed, to ensure designs are aligned with location specifications.
  • Update design requirements as necessary.
  • Contribute to firm's Technical Knowledge Management by developing white papers and technical design documentation of new or special case designs, studies, etc.
  • Submit technical papers and designs for publishing to technical journals.
  • Collaborate with sales staff to create proposals in response to current and potential client requests for proposal (RFPs).
  • Review draft proposals for adherence to firm, industry, state, local and federal regulations and best practices.
  • Meets with current and potential future clients to review their current and future design needs.
  • Attends conferences, symposia, etc. to improve the visibility of the firm's products and services in collaboration with applicable sales staff.
  • Act as point of contact for external client and related industry contact.
  • You'll work with clients and government officials to clarify technical questions and keep project management informed with timely updates.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to more junior staff.
  • Mentor more junior staff and develops them for future growth within the discipline and firm.
  • Supervise the work of junior engineers on project work.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Skills & Abilities

  • Expert knowledge of CADD 3D and 4D software and best practices
  • Strong design and calculation skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft business software (Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills to help clients understand complex concepts
  • Ability to work effectively across all levels in a dynamic environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 15 years of related experience.
  • Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a college degree.
  • Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.

USD $127,878.00
Pay Range Max

USD $236,558.00
Additional Pay Range Information

CDM Smith is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. This pay range is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels for the geographic location assigned to the position. In addition to geographic location, a candidate's salary is determined by several other factors including, but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, relevant work experience, skills, required certifications, and education/training.
Additional Compensation

All bonuses at CDM Smith are discretionary and may or may not apply to this position.
