Description

This position allows for a hybrid arrangement with a mix of work from home and in the office.

 

This position will offer you the opportunity to be the technical lead of a project team consisting of engineers and designers involved in the design and analysis of new electrical systems supporting the development and testing of the next generation of nuclear science and research. You will lead a team on challenging assignments that include designing electrical distribution systems and new facilities containing laboratories, testing, and research areas that will require solving a wide variety of unique electrical engineering issues.

 

  • Lead the development of electrical engineering deliverables, including drawings, calculations, and specifications, while overseeing and guiding other engineers and designers in the preparation of engineering documents
  • Act as the Electrical discipline lead in the coordination of design phases for all aspects of site and facility electrical engineering work
  • Lead efforts to ensure projects are completed satisfactorily, on time, and within budget
  • Coordinate design activities amongst other electrical engineers to ensure installation and operations will comply with specifications, codes, and client requirements
  • Interface with clients as the electrical discipline lead, providing status updates, preparing RFI’s and clarifying scope 
  • Prepare and review detailed electrical calculations, including arc flash, voltage drop, fault current, and lighting analysis
  • Prepare documentation for design input for drawing production
  • Interface with vendors to prepare materials and equipment purchase specifications for client recommendations
  • Prepare reports and studies that present technical information in a clear and concise manner and meet client requirements and S&L formats
  • Perform independent reviews of work performed by others including calculations and drawing preparation
  • Develop your career via peer-learning through sharing of knowledge with other experienced engineers by way of S&L’s systems of process and associated Sargent & Lundy “Communities of Practice"
  • Provide guidance as a mentor in the development of less experienced engineers
Qualifications

Must be a U.S. Citizen; Dual citizenship with a country other than the U.S. does not qualify.

 

Essential skills and experience:

 

  • Must be able to obtain US Government security clearance
  • A BSEE degree from an ABET-accredited program is required; MSEE preferred
  • Must be currently licensed as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the US and able to obtain NM PE licensure
  • Must have or be able to obtain a DOE “Q” level clearance
  • 15+ years of experience (ideally in DOE, nuclear Navy, or NNSA) in the design of electrical engineering systems in a project team environment with a focus on integrated, detailed system design for new plants or modifications/replacements for existing plants
    • Experience must include the selection of equipment, layouts, materials, and the preparation of calculations and specifications
    • Experience is required with creating electrical system drawings and designs including low voltage distribution systems (switchgear, transformers, generators, motors, UPS), communication systems
  • 3+ years of experience in leading an engineering design team through all phases of project design
  • Technically knowledgeable of available equipment and proven pre-engineered systems to execute systems design and integration
  • Experience with serving as firm/client liaison in a lead engineering role
  • Experience in reviewing design media created by other engineers

Valued but not required skills and experience:

 

  • Construction and start-up experience a plus
  • Commissioning experience a plus
  • Experience using Artificial Intelligence (AI) in engineering workflow and processes
  • Currently located in NM

Compensation Range$145,310 - $222,001 Transparency StatementSargent & Lundy discloses compensation ranges that comply with all local and state regulations.
