The role emphasizes high-reliability system design, with a focus on controllable solid propulsion technologies such as divert attitude control system. The engineer will work closely with systems, mechanical, and propulsion engineering teams to ensure alignment with DoD and MDA performance, safety, and mission assurance standards.
Responsibilities: - Serve as the lead electrical engineer for hardware development on DoD and MDA programs involving controllable solid propulsion systems
- Lead a team of electrical engineers through design, analysis, integration, and test phases
- Drive electrical design execution and issue resolution within the engineering team
- Design and oversee development of complex controller electronics, high-reliability interconnects, and sensor interfaces
- Ensure compliance with electrical and electromagnetic design standards including MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-464, IPC J-STD-001, IPC-2221, and MIL-PRF-38534/38535
- Support system architecture development and trade studies for divert attitude control system configurations and other propulsion systems
- Perform FMEAs, fault tree analyses, and worst-case circuit analyses to meet mission assurance goals
- Interface with suppliers and test labs for hardware qualification, EMI/EMC certification, and electrical test protocols
- Prepare technical documentation for customer delivery including ICDs, test reports, and qualification packages
- Present design approaches, risks, and readiness at internal and customer design reviews (e.g., PDR, CDR, TRR)
- Support integration and test campaigns including system bring-up and troubleshooting
Required Qualifications: - Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance; active clearance preferred
- Familiarity with the DoD acquisition lifecycle, particularly for Missile Defense Agency (MDA) and other Department of Defense (DoD) programs
- Proven ability to lead electrical engineering teams in a structured product development environment
- Strong organizational and technical communication skills, including presenting to internal and government stakeholders
- 10+ years of electrical hardware design experience, preferably in aerospace, defense, or missile systems
- Proven experience leading electrical engineering teams through full development lifecycle
- Experience with actuation systems, propulsion controls for missiles or interceptors, and related subsystems including actuators and initiation systems
- Hands-on experience with qualification of flight hardware to applicable military and aerospace standards
Skills:- Effective leadership and mentoring skills within an electrical engineering team
- Proficient in design and analysis of analog and digital circuits, including schematic creation and interpretation
- Background in actuation system control, motor drive circuits, or power conditioning for missile systems
